Actually that’s not true at all. New trucks are subject to crash tests however early 2000 and especially 90s trucks did not have to pass crash tests. Ford and dodge’s especially have horrible crash and roll over. Fords currently being sued for how bad the roll over is on 98 to 2008 f series. Dodge ram second gen quad cab folded and smashed the driver. The new trucks are doing better but older large trucks were horrible.

Yeah, this video was produced by an American news organization, by people that largely live in cities, that do not like large trucks. They’re ethnocentrists in a world where small cars are more advantageous, and can’t imagine why anyone would want a large vehicle. They look down on people who don’t live in cities and want us to think the way they do.

CNBC wants to discourage people to want to buy gas vehicles. Instead you need an electric car. I say bulshit! I bought an F-150 Ford truck and I loved it. You get into one of them trucks, you'll be so comfortable because it has so much room. The problem with all the crashes is because people don't pay attention and drive on the freeway as if their in NASCAR without any training.
@NannerBrams

Electric car is charged via natural gas anyways so it really doesn't make any sense why they push it so much. Not to mention if it gets cold enough the battery freezes and won't hold a charge. I'll stick to the gas cars, they're a lot more reliable and convenient for now

Trucks and SUVs also have as high fatality rate due to roll overs as compared to fatality rates of sedans. Big trucks are not as safe as you think. Front and rear collisions they are great, but being side swiped is more dangerous that smaller cars (statistically)
@Ira88881
@Ira88881 Жыл бұрын
@@user-lf7nf3kl7t Link your statistics. I don’t believe it for a second. Also…and try to use some mind exercise here… Red sedans are often charged higher insurance rates than other cars, especially true of higher performance vehicles. Nothing to do with the car, but the perceived personality of the driver and his more aggressive driving habits for buying a red car. Any “data” which suggests trucks have higher fatality rates…the very inference is stupid beyond belief…has nothing to do with the build safety of the vehicle anyway. Like if all red cars were banned, are we any safer!?

@@hrussell9677 Sometimes people worship studies and 'facts' like they can never be wrong. So many news outlets cherry pick certain studies or stats that support their agenda. Its naive to watch a news segment that tells you 'X is the case because this study from Y university said so'. Then they ignore the fact that a ton of other studies show the opposite. To really find the truth, you need to analyse the studies, read at least the abstract and find out who funded it. Then once you can remove bias collect several then you have to use some common sense to deduce something most accurately representing the truth. Its sad that journalism is so crooked nowadays but its the only way to sort through their bs. CNBC is part of the left wing biased news that supports climate change extremism. So of course they're going to portray large gas guzzling vehicles as a negative in some way to convince their audience to not buy them. That doesn't necessarily make it fact they're inserting their opinion and finding certain studies and stats to make them look bad.

One reason Americans like big cars is the fact that America is a big country, we travel longer distances than people from other countries. Was working in upstate New York years ago and the job shut down for 2 weeks, I'm from Colorado and 6' 2 and used to driving a 1 ton truck, one of the other guys from Colorado was also going back home and talked me into riding with him in his Volkswagen Jetta to save money, nice little car but after the first few hundred miles of the 3600 mile round trip it was pure agony.

I had a Scion xB run into the back of my Ram 2500 (7" lift) a few years ago. The was road construction on the beltway (go figure) and all the traffic was slowing. I was down to about 25 to 30 mph, saw the Scion coming, and came off the brakes before it hit me at a more than 55 mph. The aftermarket class 5 (2.5" Curt) hitch receiver took the entire load of the collision and all I felt was a slight push forward. I got some powder coat damage on the receiver and a scuff on the chrome. The Scion was a write off.

Last month I bought a set of patio furniture. Two chairs, table, loveseat. I ordered it online and picked it up at the store in my Toyota 4-Runner SUV. Try that in a Prius. I used to have a small 4-door hatchback (Scion XD) and i really liked it, but i bought a piece of property in the hills of Eastern Kentucky and - bless its heart - that car was a city car. It had like four inches of ground clearance. So i gave it to my daughter and bought something more appropriate. I recommend it if you want a small car with a lot of flexibility that will last. The Scion was a 2008 and my daughter is still driving it. Back in the '80s, my dad had an accident and was under the care of an orthopedic surgeon. The surgeon was over 7 feet tall. He came to our home to check on my dad and arrived in... a Volkswagen Beetle (vintage). Mom said when he got out of the car it was like one of those circus clown cars. He just kept expanding out of the car! 😂

I don't agree with their opinion that it's about competition among Americans to drive the biggest car. That may be true for 5% of Americans. But for most of us it's about what fits our family and what we need for our everyday driving because that's what we do the most. We drive to work and back. We drive our kids to sporting events or school activities. We drive our parents to the grocery store because they can no longer drive. We drive a lot because only the big cities have buses or trains to get to work. Those of us who live 20 25 miles outside of a city like I do have to drive. I traded down to a very small car about six years ago and I now regret it because like you I have had some major back issues. I've had two surgeries on my back. The small car that I have to drive is now much more difficult to get in and out of. I want a larger car for that reason alone. The cars I have bought have always been to accommodate the needs of my life at that time. .When I had young kids a car was fine. When they got a little older but still weren't old enough to drive I needed something a little bigger. Now I drive a very small car. I want to change to a small SUV as soon as the economy recovers a little bit here in states. Whatever I get it will probably be the last car I ever own so I'm going to get what I want LOL

Big pickups are more lethal to the other smaller cars, not themselves (except being prone to roll-overs, but all SUVs are, big or small because of the higher center of gravity). I had a Lyft come pick me up the other day, it was a Toyota Corolla and I could not fit in the back seat, my head was hard against the roof. One safety feature that they fail to mention is all the ne we technology that has gone into the brakes, suspension, traction control and all that good stuff. Blind spot warning radars are another thing, but improvements in braking is probably the simplest form of controlling these vehicles. Just adding rear disc brakes to trucks helps a ton. I had a 1999 Dodge Ram truck that had rear drum brakes. Never really stopped all the good. In fact along the time I got rid of it, an engine oil leak reduced the amount of pressure the brake lines were getting and I had to apply harder brake to get it to stop. Not really sure how that works, but it did. I replaced that truck with a 2016 F150 and it has rear disc brakes and that thing will stop on a dime almost. Engine braking is also improved. In other words, as the Auto Transmission is downshifting as you're slowing down, the change in gears act as an additional way to help you slow down. The thing with Electric cars that don't have gears, don't slow down all that well. I play Real Racing 3 mobile game, and .I hate all the electric cars in the game because they don't slow down worth a shit, because there's no engine braking when the transmission downshifts.

The main reason large vehicles are so popular in the US is that many people can take advantage of a tax write off for any vehicle with a gvw of 6000lbs-14000lbs known as section 179 this covers just about any 3 row suv or pickup the two most popular segments of vehicle. Now the reason small cars made by American brands are getting 86'd is because they were just shitty products it has not much to do with the demand as good small cars even really expensive ones sell really well.

It is not more dangerous, except to the smaller vehicle. Still driving a Chevy p.u. from early 90s with over 290K miles on it. Was rear ended once by smaller car, nice thud I felt, his whole front end was a crumpled mess, mine nothing, he hit the tow bar and ball, bent slightly downwards, a 4# hammer can straighten out. Man was pissed, his car was trashed, mine nothing, and it was his fault. The reason the newer trucks weigh more than before is vehicle regulations put on them by do gooder groups. Buyers figure if I am going to be charged the price, I am going to be comfortable doing it.

I'll always buy my teen the biggest truck for her first car because it is just safer being the bigger car. Anything smaller run the risk of being ran over or getting a tow hitch embedded in the driver's seat and even a BMW can't escape physics. Plus the kid will learn how to drive large beastly vehicles. I still like small sporty cars, but they won't survive a crash with most of the things on America's roads.

Glad I didn't fall for the huge Truck and SUV craze. Gas is between $4.50 and $5.00 a gallon in my area. There seems to be an arms race for size and price. Yes cars are disappearing. I have a 17 Chevy Impala. I can't buy a new one because they don't make them anymore. I will just keep the one I have which has never given me any trouble with 90K miles on it.

The US used to have a 55 mile an hour speed limit because of these so - called scientists. Later, after review, they discovered a car traveling at 70 didn't burn anymore gas than one traveling at 55. I think a majority of the accidents that they mention here were partly caused by speed. You should check out the damage done to a vehicle at different speeds. I have a small SUV because I commute to work and in the winter, I need the 4 wheel drive capability.

Having the larger option is nice. Our country was built for cars, I absolutely hate the push to try and match the European model for transportation.

One thing about the difference between American vehicles and roads compared to European vehicles and roads is the standard lane width. In Europe, it's 9 ft wide or about 3m. In America, lanes are at least 12 ft or 4m wide. So what does that say about the size of the vehicles. Well, for the American market, they're built wider that their European counterparts. So an American-buikr BMW, Mercedes, VW, or whatever else that we get, exotics and what not, are about a foot or more wider than the European built ones of the same model. So you spoke of feeling cramped in your vehicle. Well, yes...that's the main issue right there. I see European vehicles and if looks like their passengers are sitting in one another's laps. That's insane to us across the pond. We gotta have our room. You can generally fit two large adults and a child in the same bench seat, or three smaller adults, say like three petite sized women. Back when my family would take vacations in the late 70s and early 80s, we oened a 1979 Chevy K10 Blazer, and we pulled a 24 ft camper with it. The front seats were bucket seats with a hard plastic storage console in the middle. I'd sit on that console as we'd drive down the road. Wasn't the most comfortable thing to do, but I was less than 11 at the time, so I could handle it. We'd take my grandparents with us, so it was four adults and me and my 3 year younger sister. We ended up using cushions from the camper to build an extra seat in the very back of the Blazer for my sister and I to sit on comfortably. Bht in 1985, we upgraded to a GMC Suburban which included a 3rd seat, which solved our space problem. But by that time, so grandparents were getting tok old and sick to travel with us anymore. In fact, in 1987, my grandpa died at home just after we got back home from a big New England vacation. We got home July 7th 1987, and he died on the 14th. Grandma lived till late Sept 2001 though. Then my mom died in April 2014 at just 71 years old. Grandma was 89, almost 90 when she died.

If you want a stock 392 Hemi powering it, you can have it. If you want a 505hp Hellcat powering it, you can have it. If you want a 840hp Demon powering it, you can have it. If you want a 1000hp Hellephant powering it, you can have it. Imagine, new highly modified pickup trucks with as much and more horsepower and torque than the muscle cars you reacted to.

Pickup trucks have proven safer to drive for the driver. Not for the front passenger. Sitting in the rear seat of a pick up is the safest place to be on the road.
@rich7447
@rich7447 11 ай бұрын
Pickups have improved safety for the front passenger a lot over the last 20 years. The problem with the safety test is that they use the mass of the vehicle and accelerate it into an immoveable, non-deformable, object. This scenario makes up a very small percentage of collisions. We should be testing how each vehicle reacts when it hits other vehicles of various sizes and come up with a matrix of ratings. The way it is now many people believe that their 5 star safety rating sub-compact gives them a higher survival chance than a 2 star rated full size SUV when, in fact, the SUV will annihilate the sub-compact.

Obama was giving out tax credits on golf carts at one point in time. The legislation, which I am sure that no one read before passing, had giant hole that GC manufacturers were able to take advantage of to make some cash. I wouldn't be surprised if more than half of congress didn't invest in GC manufacturers right before the legislation was revealed to the public.
