Bummer about the grocery store being gone, as well as the tiki bar at Grand Dunes marina. I hate it when an old favorite spot declines :( The ‘Roger Out’ @ 8:50 was an appropriate way to conclude that sad news. And very cool you hit 30k subscriber mark - Congrats for creating a fun boating channel!!

Enjoyed the Video! The "Tiki Bar" is actually called Anchor Cafe, and it is now open 7 days a week. Many of the restaurants in the Myrtle Beach area had staffing problems, as a lot of the seasonal help could not travel due to covid restrictions. Seems to be back to normal now. While the Lowes supermarket (formerly across the street from the marina) has closed, there is a nice Publix supermarket located only 1.6 miles away from the marina. Hope that helps.

I lived on Pawleys Island and used to run up and down the ICW often. All of it was familiar to me, and I love that stretch that goes south from NMB and takes the left 90* turn by Bucksport. Not for sure if just raising prices is a help….putting the cost on the consumer just seems to be the easy answer for bad policy making that caused the issues to begin with. We always liked Grande Dunes. It is still a very nice marina. If they get the dock bar back open it will be better. Still, there is a supermarket within biking distance and a Ruth's Chris on the premises. We considered leaving the boat there for the winter but they had a waiting list when we checked last year.

We love Grande Dunes Marina and have stayed there many times. We agree, the staff is great. We just found it strange that out of the dozens of bars and restaurants we visited this trip, from dive bars to 5 star places, this was the only regular stop that was closed due to staffing issues. Perhaps it is just a local phenomenon. We road our scooters down to that Publix. Many of the marinas are being bought up be gig corporations (Oasis, Safe Harbor). Probably because of the losses incurred from Covid related problems. Although, it probably saved some of them from closing permanently, it is not something that we found to be a good thing.

There are lots of places needing staff. The payments for those who were out of work due to virus that continued past the need encouraged many to not work. Many in restaurants and bars and such looked for better paying jobs with better futures knowing this could easily happen again.
