Hello dino it's not as simple as that. Building an island on top of a submerged reef and demanding territorial and airspace rights and then EEZ rights is empire building. It is like planting a flag in Antarctica or Pacific Ocean floor and claiming it as yours. It demands international recognition. The CCP 9-dash line that gives legitimacy of the artificial islands has been erased. Absolutely no recognition from any of the coastal states involved.

I am Filipino-American, I respect chinese people here in US, they are hardworking, smart good people. If the South China Sea belongs to China, then all the other 3 seas closer to China must also belong to China. The historical reason should be universally available to other countries.
