South Coast Iceland Summer Travel Itinerary

Went to Iceland this May before all the summer tourists, had a great time in the Golden Circle area. On our day trip to South Iceland, stopped to see all the Falls...recommend climbing the stairs at Skogafoss and continuing on the hike up river...there are many more falls to see and a beautiful hike. While there, grab a bite to eat at the Hotel Skogafoss restaurant...recommend trying the Icelandic lamb meat soup and a local Icelandic brew. Also, after visiting the black sand beaches, we stopped by to see the Dyrhólaey Lighthouse...can drive up to the top and walk around with great views. Didn't see any puffins though. Great trip!

I did that trip with my family group Sunday, July 2nd 2023, yes we had to wait for parking in several of the lots. I did climb the stairs too.

i love your vid's! you made me come to island! were coming in septembre this year as first timers. i found so much information already thanks to you, but i was wondering one thing, for sightseeing spots, what time you need to be there in the morning to avoid the mass?

I lived in Iceland in 1996-97. There was no tourism. I did a tour around the entire island. It was so beautiful and peaceful. I still have all the pictures from that trip. When I returned in 2015, Iceland had changed SO MUCH. So many stores and tourism. It wasn't the same place.

Jeannie was our guide to the south coast in May 2022. Her interactive map and her digital guide (much of which we printed out before the trip) were MUCH more helpful than any other guides that we'd looked into. When we talk (and talk and talk and talk) about our trip to others , we talk about Jeannie as if she were someone that everyone knows, mostly because she IS someone whom everyone SHOULD know. Go to Iceland! And when you do, avail yourself of Jeannie's videos, maps, and guides.Next time, maybe we will get her to do a custom trip for us. I hope my husband reads this 😉

Er are just at bruarfoss and have really difficulties with paying the parking! The licence Plate has been scanned and we have no Chance to get out without paying a Penalty fee. The automatic parking payment is shit!!😡

Reynisfjara was my biggest disappointment in my road trip. The parking lots, the restaurant are destroying the place and there were 3 full buses when I went there. Overall I found the south of the island to be overrated.
