Tried to capture sunset from South Foreland Lighthouse near Dover, weather conditions were not as expected so you have to make the most of the conditions your given at the time. Sometimes you only have that day to go out and you have to work with the conditions you have at the time, that's Landscape photography for you, unless you are a full time youtuber you don't always get to choose the days you can go out, so you have to make the best of it.

Great video Lee! Nice work getting back out after a couple busted vlog attempts. Love those little wind-swept trees in the very beginning b-roll! Lovely place to take a 1.5-mile walk, can't beat that view! A shame they put up the gate and fence in such a beautiful location, very reminiscent of the way they do things over here. Well done on working around the barriers to get the shot. Lovely long expo at 6:39. The 2nd shot has that annoying fence but the way you composed it with the gate actually makes for a pretty darn good shot in my opinion. And a great way to end it..."that's landscape photography". 100% spot on!

Thanks Paul , i was a little frustrated that day, nothing seemed to be going right, i liked the wind swept trees and though on the right day maybe i could make something of one of those , definatly be returning when conditions improve hopefully !

I know where you’re coming from with regards to limited time. The weather’s been so bad (dull) almost every weekend since the end of autumn. It’s so frustrating. Enjoyed the honesty..

Know the feeling Lee, going out taking up most of the morning and not getting a vlog, That's the name of the game mate. I'm glad you put it out mate as this is what really happens in landscape photography, you might go out 4 days and only get one day of good conditions. Chees mate.

Thanks Jeremy , still a nice walk as frustrating as it was, still bit if a reccy for future maybe !

Annoying that you were faced with the locked gate, Lee, but you managed to improvise quite well over the fence. I know you weren't happy with the results - we've all been there, and I can certainly relate to having to work around a full time job etc. Having said that, I did quite like the one at 6:37, the long exposure and blurred out sky manages to make it work despite the unfavourable light. 👍

Thanks Robert , just seem to be having a little run of bad luck , just put a vlog together from London, that had a few issues along the way , still luck has to change soon , right ? lol

Totally agree with you Mate, it's tricky to get that balance between Family/Work and Photography. As you said hi just have to make the best of it. The location looked like it could offer some great potential and hopefully on you next visit it will. Cheers for sharing Mate and take care, 👍 📸

I was lucky when I visited the lighthouse but as you say, you can't predict the weather (or locked gates) but I reckon you captured some lovely images - plus you got yourself a nice long walk 🙂

Thats very true mate, i did enjoy the walk along the cliff top and a future location to return to no doubt , not sure why they lock that gate , you could easily get over it if you really wanted so not sure what problem it tries to solve . Thanks for watching mate :-)

@@LeePelling I know that NT rent out the cottage for holiday dwellers so I wonder if they lock it for the privacy? Who knows!

Well for what it’s worth Lee, I thought that last image, incorporating the gate, came out really nicely. Nice tones, interesting subject, and the gate balanced that right side of the shot really well. I forced myself to come to terms with the reality of landscape photography in the UK a while back now, the lottery of the weather - and the terrible forecasts haha….I’ve noticed that a lot of National Trust properties seem to have far more ‘closed off’ areas than they used to pre-pandemic. I wonder if that gate has always been there or if they installed it since 2020 to deal with increased visitors

Thanks Dave , I was just a little frustrated as two consecutive occasions things didn't go well but it was still a good walk out , maybe when conditions are more favourable I'll return. Think I'm going to delete the weather apps lol !

Bad luck with the weather Lee but I do like the first shot especially considering where you were perched to take it. I totally agree about work/life commitments v photography, sometimes the only chance I get to get out might be a lunch hour, it's ok when you are a full-time youtube 'tog and you can get another crack at it the next day and keep going back until it's right.

Still good to get out but when you trying to make a video it just highlights the issue more I think , but it is a hobby and one I love so I'll keep struggling!

Great video and to see someone else's shots from my local area. Just a heads up to anyone going to the South Foreland Lighthouse, i was there last month and there was scaffolding being put up as they have some conservation work starting.
