I'm conflicted on this. A lot of folks on section 8 allow there bad grand children, and drug dealing family member to move in with them and that lowers the quality of life for everyone. Folks whom are (working) everyday tend to not be the issue in these complexes. It's actually the people who stay home all day and stay up all night. Also, I think section 8 should be used to help a person for no more than 12 months. After that, they need to pay the regular amount of rent like everyone else. I lived in a complex with section 8 folks before and it was horrible. They stayed up all night because nobody's going to work and the elderly people had several Children in the apartments with them who hung out all night as well. Not taking section 8 is a way to improve security and quality of life. It may seem harsh but it's necessary sometimes if you want to clean up a community.
@Whaley96

You sure it's not the low quality of education? And no social programs and the decades of red lining and putting a bunch of people that are desperate in a socioeconomic situation all in the same place. This is what happens when people don't see another way out of their situation, they see their brothers, sisters, mother's, and father's do what they can and it's all they see and know. So how do you break that cycle is the question that needs to be answered.
@Qofb7636
@Qofb7636 Жыл бұрын
@@Whaley96 To be honest with you, I absolutely don't have the answers but I do have an experience to share. Part of what you're saying might provide a resolution. Mixed income communities attempted to address this exact issue you're speaking about. Eastlake Meadows here in Atlanta GA is a perfect example of how to make this work. Unfortunately in the late 90's everyone was evicted from Eastlake Meadows to make room for a new and improved Eastlake Meadows that have both section 8 and non section 8 folks who thrive there. You can't move there on section 8 and move in a bunch of other people because the regularly perform inspections on each section 8 apartment or town home. Out of 300 units only about 35 are section 8. The quality of life is great in that area and they even built a Publix grocery store across the street. This story had 67 (families) on section 8 out of 370 units. So most of be the people who be live there are not on section 8🤷🏿. So this would be a complex that tried the mixed income community and it didn't work at this property.

@@215workhard You think it's because they are black women? Everything you said misses the nuances of why they are in the situation you are referring to in the first place. Just generalizing a group of people and saying that they brought this on themselves seems harsh, draconian and lacking 200 years of red lining and racist housing laws and redistricting to deny them political power. We've only tried for the past 40 years of this country to make things somewhat better and if you act like the civil rights movement was the end to this then you're wrong. As women still are not guaranteed equality under the Constitution. As Alabama is still a holdout on passing the amendment. Which I live in unfortunately

The boyfriend then spray painted a set speakers in the living room on a coffee table. The over spray went everywhere. My aunt and uncle had a nice rent in the same city. I am so thankful for my Big Mama, who in 1945, after spending her childhood and much of her young adulthood working as a domestic, purchased what we now call our old family home. She instilled a strong work ethic in her children and grandchildren. She only had an elementary school education, but took pride in having her kids and grandkids well educated. And she drilled into all her girls to work even if they didn't have to, so they could have their own money. She would always sit her grands and great grands down and talk about work and education. All her children, and most grand and great grands are college educated, have good jobs, and are property owners. Not one welfare or Section 8 recipient among us.

There are people that are disabled and can't work. The Section 8 helps them live in an apartment. And some do get disability benefits . Mostly around $800 a month. Not counting to take out Part B Say $200 taken away. Now they only have $600 a month. Now will you pay the rent or starve? Section 8 let's the tenants pay something around $200. HUD is suppose to pay the difference on area rent. This makes tenants pay $200. The rest can be used for food and clothing in a place like Goodwill.

The program is designed for you to get out of it by buying with your voucher (of course, some may not be able to buy without proper preparation). At some point, if your finances won't allow you to do so, then it's time to do something about increasing your skills, job prospects and earning so you can save. Each time these stories pop up in the news, I always wonder what people have and haven't been doing to change their situation. Why is it that so many people are unwilling to try to do anything for themselves? Not necessarily the people in this video, because maybe some of them really can't do any better. But what I really mean is nearly 25 years ago when I was starting the steps toward home ownership, an older coworker (same age as my mother) asked me why was I bothering to buy a house. She wanted to know why I wanted to leave my apartment. She had been living in apartments for decades at that time. She tried to talk me out of buying a house, giving reasons like if I continued apartment living I could just call maintenance when something broke. She literally couldn't understand Pride of ownership, freedom to live as I want, ability to change and customize as I saw fit. I was so stunned, I started to distance myself from her. Definitely support building specifically for low income and section 8 holders. Ppl need help and should have roofs over their heads when in need but where the problem lies is they want to dictate where they stay. Staying in nice “areas” in the city should be for those who can afford it only. I propose government owned buildings be in place specifically for section 8ers and landlords who wants to deal with them should be a choice only. They use to have projects but got rid of those quick running a muck and infested w/crime and drugs. Also time limits should be enforced on the program and while on it to select a trade and complete it if they fail they are out of the program entirely.

No one should be forced to explain why they make a decision with their property. It's the owner's property, period. If they want to evict everyone and bulldoze it, that's their business. * I can tell you why I don't participate in Section 8: 1) It's a bureaucratic nightmare. 2) The rents are often below what market rate tenants will pay. 3) Section 8 inspections sometimes find frivolous reasons to stop paying their portion of the rent. 4) Sec 8 doesn't cover damages done to the property. 5) Sec 8 doesn't cover any legal costs to evict a tenant who stops paying their portion of the rent. 6) Any time the Govt has a fiscal shut down, they stop paying rent and the payments don't resume for weeks. Even when received, they don't include any late fees, so the landlords are stuck floating the tenants a loan for the indefinite future. 7) Sec 8 lease trumps my lease in ways that are disadvantageous to me. 8) They demand year leases and sometimes I prefer month to month. *

Well the opposite happened to me. Mixed income. New owner decided to make the whole property section 8, that means a huge tax break. Market owners are now having to move in a terrible time to move. It’s awful when it happens to anyone. 60 days isn’t legal. Usually it’s 120 days and hopefully the court will allow them more time.

Politicians created a lot of issues with rent moratoriums. The landlords never got paid in most states, and they are sick of not getting below" market rate" rent. Politicians should not interfere with legal operation of a business. If they keep doing it, then there will be no tax base to pay for services. Stay in your lane fools.

Lets state the facts. Section 8 is straight up gravy, most vouchers give you a free apartment and your copay can be as low as $20 a month. Landlords like it too because they know they will get rent. And yet some people get approved and are idiots, they wreck their apartments.... bring in pets and ruin the carpets, cause disturbances, renig on the small copay or make themselves so disagreeable the landlord ends up filing for eviction or they lose their voucher. If you land Sec 8 and mess it up its your own fault. Case closed.

Section 8. A lot of these women had the chance to and could have made better personal sexual/life choices when they were younger to have a better more positive life and they had a chance to educate themselves and encourage their offsprings to do the same. Some of them (it's that ghetto attitude) feel that someone (especially the government) OWE them something.

I got the hell out of Biscayne now called Beacon Ridge. That place and it’s BLACK management is the worse property managers ever. This place constantly changes owners and property managers! The tenants don’t realize it’s a blessing in disguise. When they kicked me out in 2021, I moved to Los Angeles and haven’t looked back. I was there from 2016 to 2021 while working on my PhD at Clark Atlanta. I had to constantly complain about crime, rats, roaches, management, loud music/noise and South Fulton Police who are worthless.
