I went to this lighthouse as a kid all the time, that steel is THICK. Probably 1/2 to 3/4 inch steel with half inch rivets. She’s built tough and been standing for decades.

My parents lived only a few short blocks from the pier. They had a widows walk on top of their house where we could stare out over Lake Michigan and the lighthouse. ❤

@@dennisdose5697 omgosh. I'm about 45 minutes south of Chicago. I'm actually at the tip of Lake Michigan. Right close to the state line. I haven't been to see the Lake. Cause water scares the hell out of me. It's the silent killer. We used to pick peaches and blueberries in South Haven. Hey, do you remember the guy that looked like Colonel Sanders from KFC? He had a pond there. We'd go fishing up there. I'm sure he's passed away by now. I was in my twenties then. Add about fifty more. It was beautiful up there. Man that light house is really catching hell. Those waves are almost over the top of it. Good Lord. It does really freak me out. I'm east of whiting there's a beach there. It there used to be a beach there. I haven't seen any beach in any pictures lately. I'm sure we're all gonna flood big time. Eventually. Maybe that's why I'm scared of water so bad. Don't know. Stay safe and dry.

REMINDS ME OF LAKE ERIE ON A NEW YEARS NIGHT. WIND HAD BEEN BLOWING, ANYTHING THAT HAD NOT MOVED IN THE 24 HOURS WAS COATED IN ICE. WE WERE ON A PIER EXTRUDING OUT THAT HAD A VERY GOOD RESTAURANT. REALLY COLD.

That's near me and the lighthouses here are BRUTALIZED every winter and in the fall w huge storms and somehow they last but when your on the pier and a big wave hits in the summer you can feel it all the way down the long length of the pier and there very long waves are CRAZY powerful
