It is not Toronto. Mississauga was a huge landfill when I came to Canada 35 years ago. It still has Ecosystem of the landfill though houses are over 3 to 5 million dollars in Mississauga.

This has more to do with paving over southern Ontario than climate change. It will get even worse with mandated intensification: there be no unpaved spaces to allow infiltration into the soil.

What we need is more pavement! Build a tunnel, use it as in expressway during normal weather and in heavy rain, close it to traffic and use it as a storm drain; it's been done before, the SMART tunnel in Kuala Lumpur.

This is not true, there are cities 10 times bigger than Mississauga without this issue. The major issue is the poor quality going into drainage with new construction. Perfect example is the 410/401/403 interchange. The swales are so shallow they become over run and flood the highway. Never used to flood like this back in the early to mid 2000s

I live in Mississauga and the plaza at 4:43 is across the street from my condo. It's at Hurontario and Bristol Rd. E. Apparently, the worst of the storm was in the Dixie and Dundas area.

Does not surprise me. I see all sorts of construction sites where the first couple of years consists of mechanical dewatering in Ontario, in other words construction here srarts out by draining a sawmp then building houses & roads on the newly dewatered land... THAT is what causes this when we get heavy rain, not the bogey man of clinate change.

I've never heard of Toronto flooding other than Hurricane Hazel. Don Valley floods bc of the Don River is right there, lowlands. Have developers been building where perhaps they shoulden't have? Was the sewer systems not large enough for the development thats occured? Are any rivers near by like the Credit River/Sixteen MIle Creek that is contributing to this mess?

The don river basin or delta was left with little development for years, because it is the " flood plain". Then in last 5 yrs you hear about developments going up there. nursing home flooded along another river in west end, well gosh, it was also built in flood plain. If we ignore those boundaries just because it's been a dry Era, we pay when water levels return.
