This city has a street food culture like no other and is often referred to as the city that never sleeps on account of it's thriving nighttime street food scene. We take you on a massive South Indian street food tour around Madurai from South Indian filter coffee and bun parotta to a traditional South Indian mess lunch and idiyappam smothered in a tomato chutney. We hope you enjoy the South Indian street food tour in Madurai, India. #southindianstreetfood #indianstreetfood #madurai #india

2. South Indian meal with mutton kola, bone marrow omelette and bone roast at Amma Mess, 136, Alagar Kovil Main Rd, Mellur, Tallakulam, Tamil Nadu 625002. Open daily 12:30pm to 11:00pm. N.B Correction on price- the meal cost was 513 rupees not 583 rupees as stated on the screen.
3. Iddiyapam at Burma Idiyappa Kadai, Deputy Collector Colony, Madurai, Tamil Nadu 625001. Open daily 7:00am to 9:00am and 6:00am to 10:00pm.
4. Bun Parotta at Madurai Bun Parotta, Avin Signal, Managiri, KK Nagar, Tamil Nadu 625020. Open daily from around 5:00pm to 11:45pm (but get there before 9:00pm as the parotta sells out quick!)

We’re Thomas and Sheena, food and travel fiends. We travel full time, hunting for the BEST local food in the world to showcase via our KZbin videos. Food is a window into a country's culture and one of the most exciting ways to get to know a place.
We're all about eating what and where the locals eat. You won't find food that's been created merely to be social media worthy on here- no rainbow bagels, gold leaf soft serves- just genuine, authentic food that tastes incredible.
From street food to mom and pop restaurants, we want to show you the best and most authentic food we find on our travels.

Thomas knows I love when he edits in long distance shots of Sheena blending in with the crowd. It's kind of a bonus for me! 😀👍👍 *_Amma Mess_* - I read an article and watched a couple of videos. I know you know that the location you visited is the original but the owners have been at their second larger resto in KK Nagar for a few years. It's a couple of km away. You went to the original because it was convenient, eh? Same menu and run by their son so obviously authentic recipes and techniques. *_Bun Parotta_* - Sheena had so much fun making the dough balls but then Thomas said some were too small. 😂 Reminds me when Sheena made wok noodles which were delicious but mushy. Thomas said everyone should visit that stall but not to worry because Sheena will *_not_* be working the wok. Hahaha. Good natured and super hilarious. Made me laugh. *_Excellent day! Quite memorable._*

🤣 the cheek of him! I yelled at him from behind the camera when he said that but the audio didn’t pick it up 😆 It was so fun getting a chance to participate- those guys were super friendly. Yea we went to the original Amma Mess because it was closer to where we were filming and figured since it was in the family all the recipes and techniques would be the same 😄 We would have loved to have returned to sample more of the menu but they were closed over Tamil New Year so we couldn’t get back. It was bad timing and planning on our part as so many places we wanted to film at were closed 😝 So glad you enjoyed this one mate, thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers, Sheena

Hi Jaci, thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment! That Western influence is a funny thing isn’t it? I think many people watch videos of eating food like this and forget that people always wash their hands before and after eating as there are washing facilities at every eating establishment. We were chatting to a fellow diner at the bun parotta stall about eating with your hand and the connection it creates with your food- that extra sensory element is pretty powerful. I also think when we get negative comments- well, at least you know where your own hand has been 🤣 So happy you enjoyed this one! Mutton Kari Dosa 9. Idly with Vadacurry 10. Madurai Special Biriyani 11. Mutton Leg Paya with Idiyappam Plenty more.
