From what I remember, the character Shelly was inspired from Trey's actual sister who would bully him as a kid and his parents always took his sister's side. Of course she wouldn't be that bad.

Fun fact: the scene with Pip in the cafeteria is actually a deleted scene from the original pilot episode. That's why the animation is slightly cruder until Terrance and his friends show up. It was one of a few scenes with Pip that was cut from the pilot.

Loved this episode. Mephesto had me laughing so hard dude really gave animals 4 asses. The original name of the episode was changed by the network. The name was named ( a elephant f@cks a pig.) Everything he notices in this episode, including the fact that Sharon and Shelly and Mephisto all make their debut appearances (how else would he know that?), is mentioned in the Wikipedia article on the episode.

Sorry if I'm repeating myself but thanks for reacting to this show. These early epsodes take me back to college when they first aired and South Park got huge due to word of mouth. Once you saw it you immediately told everyone you knew to watch it. Lots of watching parties in the dorms.

this was the first episode i ever saw. my mom and i took a long road trip in 97 or 98 and when we got to the destination in the middle of the night she was sleepy but i wasn’t, so she found a cartoon and put it on for me to watch while she slept. this was funny because she was the type of parent that didn’t let me watch wrestling, read harry potter, etc.

honestly the best South Park reactions - I consider myself a huge fan, but there's loads of references I don't get that you do, like The Island of Dr. Moreau makes Mephesto's creepy little human-monkey-friend-thing make so much more sense. Fun fact: At 7:43, there used to be water under Stan after getting beat up because the original scene before its original broadcast was where Shelly set Stan on fire with matches before tossing water on him but Comedy Central cut it before broadcast because they feared children would imitate it like the Beavis and Butthead controversy of 1993 where a five year old boy set his house in Ohio on fire.

Fun fact about the Stan clone from this episode as well as mutant Turkeys from another episode as well as aliens from the pilot were part of the South Park game on the original Playstation of which you have to defeat them in different levels. A game I highly recommend finding and playing.

The main kids used to be so cute back then. So innocent yet foul-mouthed asf. They may be 10 now but they have teenagers personalities. Like Stan being too depressed right now. Kyle being mocked for being too smart. Cartman's stupid extra length yet more idiotic than evil compared to the 2000s. Then Kenny being so nice to everyone.

Even with common sense, that was a handful of the adults (Chef and Sharon especially though Jimbo and Ned had their moments outside of their obsessive hunting, and even Big Gay Al and Mr. Slave (yes, for real, like how he advised Wendy through everyone dressing up like "little wh*res" and being the one to tell the girls' parents they shouldn't let their kids dress or act like that) being reliable adults the kids could turn to for advice) and while the kids were kids in their behaviours, they still found themselves being the more mature ones when faced with anything.

I can't find an official source on this, but apparently, Mephesto is the one character that has been written out of the show without being killed off. I do remember commentary from Matt and Trey saying that they wish they made him an actual nambla member so they could get rid of him

sounds like Trey Parker doing an Elton John impression to me. I think my favorite episode from season 1 is Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride, but... Damien, Cartman Gets an Anal Probe, Cartman's Mom is a Dirty Slut, Starvin' Marvin, Pinkeye, Mr. Hankey the Christmas Poo... y'know what... I was going to pick out some and call them definite classics but it's basically the entire first season. Not a single weak episode among them.

this was my introduction to south park i was 8 and could tell it was for adults. i'd already been allowed to watch beavis and butthead for years but parents didn't like this soon after i was at a walmart, in the landing area they used to have quarter little toy machines and video games and "stop the light on the prize, win the prize". on that last one i won a kenny keychain. so what did my friend do? he ripped his head off. that bastard

I find myself avoiding the earlier seasons, so it's nice to see them through the lens of someone else. 7-14 are my favorite. I still request "Night of the Living Homeless" lol. Such a great episode.
