What I’ve noticed about this show (having watched it since I was a teenager) is that a lot of the laughs, perhaps most of them, come from the delusions, caprices, and downright idiocy of the adult characters. The kids are much more grown-up - from the Stan/Kyle interplay of moral anxiety, to the amoral greed and selfishness of Cartman (who is really quite Shakespearean in his delicious evil)

The old 1981 _Clash of the Titans_ had three problems: 1. There were no Titans involved -- remember that the Greek gods had defeated the Titans. 2. The stop-motion effects were done with really poor time resolution. Both of these would have been ok. But the last one is just too much: 3. You don't really get to see Judi Bowker naked.
