In my high school, we weren't allowed to wear hats. So some of the parents would buy hats and hand them out to the kids who were protesting the rule. The pajama episode felt EXACTALY like the real reactions from the school board and the principal. Basically they acted like having a hat inside was a gateway drug to breaking more rules. So dumb

The reason fans are complaining about lord of the rings that its inaccurate to the books. Yes I know its an adaptation things change for the sake of the medium but outright changing what is clearly written in his books in order to modernized something thats already timeless for no reason other than to say you have a diverse cast in middle earth project while re writting the work just for that hell they don't even have the rights to the story they are adapting and rather fabricate and rework over whats written instead of adding to it. Tolkein had a diverse line of characters in a section of his world that he himself didn't elaborate so its an open book to create something new and add to his world but no they rather rewrite, copy and " modernize" his work. P.S. Its not a small section of fans that are lashing out, its most of them, hell production fired a expert who's been studying tolkein before either me or you were born because he didn't agree with their changes to the story not to mention calling fans who dislike it raging racists is not the best way to garner good will towards your project especially if you have amazon levels of money and the trailer looked a lot worse than a movie decade old made with less money.

@@Johnny2Cellos their complaining because its doesn't match the BOOKS the thing that, you know, you need to follow. Second since when a dwarf that lives underground that also is a miner get melanin from abstaining from the sun for centuries also elves in the books and all media up to date are white since they were born under starlightand their homes are usually in northern part of middle earth hell the main complain is that they race swap characters for the hell of it not because their skin is black hell if tolkein wrote that they were black, people wouldn't complain as much also the other major complain is that the fact that Dwarven women have beards and look so alike to the men dwarves that the other inhabitants of middle earth can't tell the difference. It's not about race is about staying true to the source material imagine if they made a black panter show and race swap black panther for no reason other just to have a white guy as black panther people obviously its own fans will loose their collective shit over that change. The lesson is simple respect the source material for it pave the way to your project. Its the act not the race that upsets people. An example the live action movie of avatar the last air bender

@@Johnny2Cellos ok so what would happen if I made Candyman movie but instead of African Americans as the main focus and main antagonistic i made it in the suburbs with an all white cast it would be ok regardless if it make sense According to the original story or that white washes a movie. Would fans of the original be ok with, my guess is no, so trying to spin it as a race thing is worth only wrong but ignorant to the main problem, its not about the race its about altering a pre-made and pre written story not for the sake of inclusion or diversity but for the ability to say its inclusive even though this is the same company that is know to abuse its employees makes billions for just existing and recently used the term latinx for hispanic/latino heritage month even though latinos have both loudly and strongly consider it slur and an insult to our language. Like I said In my previous comments its not about the race itself its the act of race swap characters without a reason or meaning just to get brownie points. So I'll say one more time IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT COLOR THEIR SKIN IS, WHAT MATTERS IS THAT IT MAKES SENSE ACCORDING TO THE WORLD OF TOLKEIN which by the way if they had the self respect to explain why a female dwarf is black and has no beard and why an elf has no long hair and is not white like accordining to tolkein books in a Lotr series then it probably would gone better but they don't they just did to say their version has this characters based on their skin regardless of merit, of the author and of the actors themselves. It seems very disrespectful to be given an acting roll based on your skin and not your acting skills, not to mention amazon while promoting the show have done incredibly shady stuff like hiring actors to pose as superfans for their marketing promos which since they got called for, unlisted the video and the actors themselves haven't read a single of tolkeins books. Know let me ask you a question would it take you out of the story of let say: the native people of wakanda in a new black panther movie suddenly instead of the original wakandas from both the comics and first movie were replaced with Asians for no reason other than for they shows creators to say the have asian wakandans and the believe it makes the movie better and automatically call anyone that dares critize it as a racist bigot who hate asians yeah doubt it would go smoothly without people loosing their collective shit over it. P.S. if you think its still racist then why both me a latino and Just some guy who's is black btw not only refuse these changes but consider it pointless and not at all good for the story and franchise of Lotr and especially him he hates these changes in fact he's already made several videos on why it doesn't make sence in the story and were talking about a guy who went way out of his way to learn quenya(elvish latin) something not many people can do or do properly this man can have full on conversations in language invented by the author J.R.R. Tolkein himself

I'm having a hard time knowing what to feel for this season, It went by so fast that if felt incomplete. To make things worse I don't have a Paramount plus account (nor do I have any plans to get one in the near future) so I'm feeling a bit left out with the specials forcing me to see them by either spending the effort for some out of the box method or by paying for something I don't want. I would absolutely love that although it would be tricky to decide what decade to put them in. I guess you would have to have randy being born 46 years ago. Which represents some continuity issues since they went to Woodstock! But that never really made sense anyways ;) But it was super controversial when the Simpsons had to retcon how Homer and Marge met and put them in the '90s. Probably would work here though because they would have no real lore in the backstory of the adults.

@@michaelcorcoran8768 True. In the current timeline, assuming Randy is 42 (as he was in the Lorde episodes), he would have been born in 1980. That means, if the parents are the age of the kids, the special would take place around 1988-1990-ish. Maybe they could make another special with the parents as teenagers set in 1997 (since that's the year South Park first premiered) and make some meta-joke about the series premiere of Terrance and Phillip. They could call it "some new vulgar cartoon on Comedy Central."

I have to admit, I was hoping they'd build up Mr. Garrison's airing of his relationships to the children to become a major source of tension in an upcoming episode. The reason they all got in trouble in Pajama Day was because he got pissed off that the kids didn't care about his personal life, and who can blame them? this new production schedule is really what the series has needed for a long, long time. them trying to force long-form storytelling into their existing format was just not working, now that they've got two separate formats for the show (and after seeing how the Post-Covids turned out), I'm actually exited to watch the series for the first time in a half a decade.

I don't think it would be nice to change the race of a black character into a white one. I feel the same way about any race doing that to any other race. Those fans have a right to complain about the Lord of the Rings show. Could you imagine if they remade Friday with all white people? That's one of my favorite movies.

Plzz get your facts straight before commenting. Fans are not mad bcoz there is a black character in it, they are mad coz it doesn't align with the internal logic of the universe. For ex. There is a reason why Dwarves are not black its bcoz they live underground or in caves where they hardly see any sunlight. Another ex. - ELF is a race in itself, there is no such thing as a white elf, black elf, brown elf etc there are just elves. I am what people like to call a POC and i couldn't give a rats arse about the color of the character but what i do care is the consistency and internal logic of the story. Diversity is good but not when its done at the cost of story telling.

@@Johnny2Cellos no whats actually embarrassing is people like. You not understanding. The problem isn't having Black characters in Lord of the Rings. It's how they do it. They're butchering the the lore to push their political beliefs. One thing most fans of any series really don't like is when the lore is getting butchered. Especially if it's due to politics they don't particularly care for. If they were to actually do their damn research and actually try to be creative for once. Instead of shoehorning in black people in a situation that doesn't make any sense lore wise. They would instead focus on the more unexplored regions and cultures of the Lord of the Rings. They could instead actually add black people in well also enriching the lore of Lord of the Rings. I guarantee you if it was a situation more like that very few fans would be angry.

Majority of the fans who are complaining about the Lord of the Rings show, aren't upset about black people being part of a fantasy franchise, they are upset about the inconsistency of multi-racial societies existing in a pre-established, medieval-inspired setting with limited means of travel and no globalization. If anything that's the kind of virtue-signalling corporations take part in, that this episode is satirizing.

It's a vintage handling of current modern day trends as well as old trends which are far more important since the advent of social media so I don't think we would do a conscious aware customers or PJ day because there wouldn't be so much response to these things outside the information age of the internet. I think if south park continues having an older process to modern things they could keep a strong output for decades to come.

There is no one up in arms that there are black characters in the new LOTR show. The fact that elves and dwarves are casted as TOKEN black characters should be offensive to everyone, but it also includes races that were explicitly white. But that's not really the problem. The problem is that it's a sign that the writers are activists, not good writers. Everyone also forgets to mention that people are mad the female dwarves DONT have beards, and the cartoonish look of many of the weapons, as well as turning galadriel from a ruler into a warrior. But sure, it's just people who dont want to see black people... yawn. Actually, we would all love to see story lines focusing on the parts of middle earth where there were black and brown people, like Harad and the easterlings. But no, the new writers dont actually care about those cultures, they JUST want token black characters in regions that were explicitly based on European peoples. So yes, these people are far bigger and better fans than the mindless zombies just consuming more content because content.

“The Big Fix” is also a response to long-running animated shows like The Simpsons being encouraged to replace white voice actors with appropriate actors of color. Which they do with Tolkien’s Dad at the end of the episode, but in such a way that parallels Randy’s shifting accent as a farmer.

On the subject of the lord of the rings series coming out. I don't nor have I ever really given a shit about who people cast for any production (outside of good acting). What sorta gets me is the idea of companies saying "oh hey, we have black people, see isn't this original?? Isn't it cool?!?!?" While ignoring good story telling. Give me an all black female cast in a scifi story, fine, but give me a good story and not diversity as a hollow substitute. I really couldn't care less if an adaptation of one of Tolkien's writings has (insert ethnic group), just maintain the integrity of his world and stories.
@Johnny2Cellos

I don’t think those things are related. If white people can be in lazy cash grabs, why can’t non white people? Amazon isn’t presenting diversity as some sort of selling point, they just cast the show. It’s just weird to say “I’m cool with black casts but only if it’s good”- that’s not equal, that’s forcing a higher standard

With respect intended, diversity is absolutely a selling point. It isn't anything new, companies will attach themselves to some sort of cultural virtue to make themselves seem important. Look, I'm 100% against lazy cash grabs of any kind. As far as your point regarding media content, people like tucker Carlson or ben shapiro will use diversity as a bat to beat social media over the head. There was rhetoric of that sort with the shape of water and The batman, both well executed stories with compelling narratives, but the neckbeard right got upset merely because they had diverse elements (as though onto itself it is bad)

Wait ✋️ the issue is that 'dark skinned elves are not a thing' not 'black people can't be elves' Elves are supposed to look alien and pale, like they have never been in the sunshine before (at least that's how I read them to look like) THEN everyone jumped on a hate campaign against the series as if these makeup artists don't have pale makeup tones for clients with a non- white completion 🤦‍♀️ which IS dumb, and why I roll my eyes at them. And the other issue was women playing dwarves that look distinctly feminine. Female dwarves are suppose to be indistinguishable from male dwarves. Which I will go with the hate mob on. Have women in the roles, idc, but don't take their beards away and plush up their eyelashes 😒
