The 1st time I visited Dover was in the early 90s while on vacation from serving in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. I bought a new Nissan Maxima and covered England and Ireland on one big Pub crawl. I recommend Tiddly · Fox Farm Brewery. Dover was the *best* place I have ever flown kites. I'd never flown a stunt kite in a smooth, strong, continuous wind like that before. I had just switched to a Prism kite that is particularly fast and was putting on a show for a woman and what I assume were her two children. I never got a chance to talk to them because, after a minute or two, a seagull decided to fly through _my_ flight zone and got tagged by like lines. I'd recently switched from nylon to Kevlar lines, and they almost cut that gull in half. A big puff of feathers, a squawk, and a woman running two crying kids to their car. Very memorable; I wonder if the kids still think of that; I'm positive that the woman does.

I'm an American that the chance to visit southern England. I found it magical. The cliffs of Dover were worth it all by themselves. As a history buff, there weren't enough hours in the day. Everything was awesome including the people. London, Portsmouth, Brighton, loved it all. One of the best trips I have ever had.

I actually had a relative on my mothers side of the family who served at the Battle of Trafalgar on HMS Victory. He was Master At Arms William Elliott. I wish I knew what he looked like, but in those days only well off people had portraits done, so I can only imagine. I do know that he was a tough character in that in his position he was responsible for discipline and punishment on board, and not someone to cross. I think that his character has in some way passed down to me, or so it would appear.

Right, but don't get sucked in. I always treat KZbin travel videos with caution. They know most people watching these will predominantly be from the country. I think I've only ever seen one travel video where they said they didn't particularly like the country they were in, and I've seen a LOT. 99.999% of the time these videos will be full of praise/"amazement" no matter where they are in the world.

Quite agree Matthew, I live not too far from Canterbury and have added an 'as close to being there' virtual 4k walk through it for viewers to get a virtual leg stretch until the time comes when we can all visit with our real legs. It's surprises me how by seeing it on film makes it looks so completely special. All the best to you.

Portsmouth was always one of the poorest cities in the country.. was pretty much broke after the war.

Very enjoyable indeed and lots of lovely sunny weather (for a change). A few things to season the pot: at 07:00 you're standing at the end of Palace Street where, so legend has it, a local man called Robert Cushman chartered a ship for a voyage across the Atlantic to the new colonies. The ship was, of course, the Mayflower. Nobody is sure if that field really is the actual site of the battlefield at Hastings - there's no archaeological evidence to support it which there ought to be if 7000 soldiers died. Still worth a visit though. Portsmouth: tied into the Battle of Hastings and the Bayeux Tapestry (which was probably made back there in Canterbury) is the Overlord Embroidery - an 83 metre length of needlecraft that commemorates the Anglo-American invasion of Normandy on 6th June 1944: D-Day. Loving this armchair tourism - where shall we go next?

Hi there Rick at this time when we can't travel, I've added 'as close to being there' virtual 4k walks, including many in Europe. I hope it'll give both you and your viewers an enjoyable leg stretch until the time comes when we can visit with our real legs. Thanks for all you do and keep 'em coming won't you?

Southeast England is THE most perfect place to live in my opinion ♥It's near the beautiful beaches and calming seaside, while also being close to London :) The weather is great, the villages are beautiful and it has everything I could ask for all in 1. I can't wait to move there!

Rick, were really enjoying the travel through out Europe. I would love to see how individual citizens live in their towns and valleys. Thanks for taking us along. God bless! 😍😄

Good video. The Tiger Inn at East Dean is the quintessential English country pub. Nice beers and ales, friendly atmosphere.

I swear England´s beauty is underrated, so much about France, but English countryside is more than a good match.

I have come to the conclusion that all countries in Europe have beautiful landscape, countryside and history. Italy is probably the most stunning country, it has everything. UK as a whole is green and beautiful.

I was born and grew up in southeast England, I've also served my country and travelled to many locations across the world but for me you still can't beat the Kent countryside in Summer. I currently live in Humberside, and the northerners seem friendly enough 😉

The area in which I live. One of the first things we learn is NEVER go to the edge of cliffs which are often unstable.

Thankyou sir for showing a small part of my world to so many people who may never be able to visit here. My actual home is placed on the coast near the town of Battle, with Dover, Canterbury and Brighton equidistant to me, and each readily available at a very short drive. If you are lucky enough to be able to visit my shared island, please come to explore the English south coast, so much of which is completely free to visit. We British look forward to seeing you soon.
