Summertime and the gardens are still producing much produce. What a perfect time to fry up some Southern Fried Okra and pop some Family Favorite Jalapeño Poppers in the oven or on the grill! Fried okra is its own food group at our house. My grandpa made okry often. My son was in the army with someone from VT who thought okra was a fish. 😳

2 of my favorite foods! I don't like spicy poppers so I make sure to get the ribs out of the peppers also. I also put a splash of buttermilk on my okra before the cornmeal cause I like a lot of crunchy stuff! Thanks for sharing, see me running to freezer for some okra 🤣

Where can one get okra up north? I look for it, but it's just not available.

The okra in stores up here (we have moved to Ohio after living in TN 52 yrs) is brown and gross. It is not a product that lends itself to being sold in stores. It doesn’t keep well. I can’t find it in farmers’ markets up here, sadly. I have learned that northerners and mid-westerners are unfamiliar with it. We just grow our own here in zone 5b.
