They are looking good man! What will you be doing with all of the ones that make it?
@BenjaminsExotics2 жыл бұрын
@ZD Exotics, Many of them have already been sold as tadpoles and we are starting shipping this Monday, while the rest will be available as baby Toadlets once they come out of the water in about 45 days or so. Probably going to keep about 30 of the best looking baby Southern Toads to raise up for future breeders.

How do I know when the tadpole should come out of the water? Mine have developed hind legs, but not front legs yet
@BenjaminsExotics Жыл бұрын
@Michael Popplewell, If they are large with fully developed back legs it normally takes another 2-3 weeks for the front legs to develop. Once the front legs come out and the tail starts to be absorbed, I would take them out of the water and put them in a secure tub with very moist paper towels until their tail is absorbed completely. I probably will do a video on this process once the next batch start coming out of the water.

I live in Florida and absolutely love toads. I want to do this and release the baby toads close to the pond by my house. This way they'll be more toads by my house eating the bugs and stuff. Besides I love seeing them come out at night.

@ Miss. Dj Dapper Don aka April, Indeed! Southern Toads are so wonderful. Easily my favorite Toad species on the planet!

They get kinda smart when they get bigger they definitely know your Ware the food comes from and will come to you when you walk up to the tank
@BenjaminsExotics2 жыл бұрын
@Trav, Indeed! After about a week of being on fish flakes you can just put your hand in the water and they'll swim up and nibble on you a little bit.

Good video. Is there a way to tell tadpoles from Southern Toads versus tadpoles from Cane Toads? We've seen Cane Toad tadpoles swimming together in tight masses.
@BenjaminsExotics2 жыл бұрын
@RS A, I'm sure there is probably some way to tell their tadpoles apart, but they're so similar I'm not sure how. Probably would have to look really close at them for subtle differences.

I just found a ton of these tadpoles in a planter in my backyard. Any suggestions on how to care for them so most of them develop? I also brought some inside my house in my 3 gallon tank that was empty.
@BenjaminsExotics2 жыл бұрын
@Michele Fay, If they were found in a planter they're almost certainly some type of Tree Frog tadpoles which can be raised the same way as Toad tadpoles. Clean water and tropical fish flakes is all they really need to thrive.

What are your thoughts on the Tetra Reptomin food pellets? That what I raised my tadpoles on last year, and they seemed to do well.
@BenjaminsExotics2 жыл бұрын
@Cinnamon_Spider, Personally I've never used the Tetra ReptoMin pellets but I know some breeders who swear by them and have had great success raising tadpoles on them exclusively. I have used other Tetra foods like their TetraMin Tropical Flakes and I've always had good success with their products.

What do we feed the toads after they develop into land dwellers? What is the best substrate and habitats?
@BenjaminsExotics2 жыл бұрын
@L DOT, It depends on how large they are when they come out of the water, but most Toads will need flightless fruit flies for at least the first few weeks. They can be kept in as simple of a setup as a tub with moist peat moss on the bottom, or as complex as a bioactive terrarium.

Did the tadpoles make it? About what percentage developed into toads?
@BenjaminsExotics2 жыл бұрын
@Wesley, Yes we sold about 2000 of the tadpoles and the rest came out of the water. The babies that came out of the water are either going to new homes over the next few weeks or are going to be holdbacks for future breeding.

I have an Asian Toad. (Duttaphrynus melanosticus), She is doing well. I feed her crickets, so is there any other thing I should feed them?
@BenjaminsExotics2 жыл бұрын
@PlecoWitP, Asian Common Toads do best on a staple diet of lean feeders. Crickets, Red Runner Roaches and Dubia Roaches work well. They can also eat pinky/fuzzy mice from time to time. Stay away from mealworms and superworms, too much fat with those guys.

Were all those tadpoles from 1 female?

@joshbutler3755, Yes they are all from the same spawn.

I rescued a very small American toad tadpole and he was half the size and now he's a toadlet.

@ Lou, Very cool!

They definitely eat the ones that die I've seen it before with American toads
@BenjaminsExotics2 жыл бұрын
@Trav, Yes that is correct. Good thing they do it or else the water quality could get really nasty really quick. I think they have to be quite broken down through before they start eating the dead.
