Thanks, Alex, really interesting to hear them all played together. To my ears (and clearly listening on an iPad is no substitute for getting a Uke in your hands), the trad soundhole models trounced the beaming offset (?) models every time. The trads seemed to have a warmer, more rounded sound, while the more unconventional designs sounded harsh. It was as though they were 'all treble, no bass'. Might sound different if you're holding it though. One thing I'd say, as a relative newcomer to the world of Uke, and therefore less familiar with brands and models - it's really frustrating that you never mention the prices when you're talking about ukes. I've no idea if I'm looking at a £200 model or a £2000 model, so I'm forever flicking away to look a the website. I get that prices may change over time, but it wouldn't hurt to say that 'As of July 2023, this model retails for around...' and give a ballpark figure if you can't give the exact price. Although given that I can see the exact price if I go to the website... Anyway, that small moan aside, I'm loving the videos, and I'll be paying you a visit when my playing has improved sufficiently to justify an upgrade... Cheers!

I JUST bought a Le Maho from you guys! It's pretty fantastic. I'm not sure it's aNueNue Bird-fantastic as is sometimes said, but it's pretty great! Has all kinds of presence and a really unique timbre to it, and it's all kinds of quirky and distinct in the looks department.

I have the Le Koa tenor and finding myself wanting another one. Just don't know what is as good for the price. Maybe one with the conventional soundhole.

the lefty struggle. I can't bring my self to buy a righty cut out uke, just to flip it over, and have the side sound hole pointed towards the floor.

Nice video, as ever ! Regarding the comparison in each wood configurations, I find it hard to say if the difference between each ukulele is linked to the different soundholes design (and maybe bracing, as I guess that a different soundhole type and placement will require a rethinking of the bracings) or if the sound difference is linked to discrepancy between each ukulele of the exact same model (linked to the differences of wood density and so on). Are there important differences between each ukulele of the same model in that brand ? In the end I feel like some wood combinations sound better with the offset soundhole - less boxy - and other wood combinations are better with the traditional soundhole - more powerful when picked.

I have a question about these recordings. Are you comparing EQ’d instruments with the amplification on or are you comparing them acoustically? And are they all the same? Also I would love to hear how the upper frets (closer to the body) sound, especially finger picking, sometime. I love your comparison vids. It’s all interesting, and all useful information. Thanks!

These are all played acoustically in front of a condenser. No EQ or effects added during editing. There are other sound samples of many of these ukes on the channel that will hopefully satisfy your curiosity about the sound up the neck?

@@kithg I hope I haven’t posted this twice as my original reply disappeared, but I have the manga and it is superb. I have Ukes twice the price but this one is gorgeous to handle and play, very accurate up the high end and doesn’t lose volume. I know a local Uke teacher that also bought the acacia spruce traditional sound hole from SUS and is very pleased with it. Hope this helps a bit 🤗
