Somebody probably already posted this, but just a tip. The pistons will push in with maintenance mode on. They can be turned 1 direction a little to accommodate for after market pads that may have the peg on the back of the inside pads. With factory pads, you do not need to grease the calipers as the pads have that sticky silencer material on them.
@jroc6166

So while the vehicle is in Brake maintenance mode, your saying the pistons can be pushed in and don't need to be turned?
@stefand1752
@stefand1752 Жыл бұрын
Watch out for corrosion in the holes where the plastic guides for the slide pins fit. Mine were so bad that it squeezed the guides tight onto the pins causing one of the pads to wear prematurely. If the pins don't move easily in the guides, replace the guides after removing the corrosion and greasing (silicon) the holes.

@@jeffs2809 I am so surprised your USA cars are allowed to have so much rust in them in critical places. In Australia they would have been condemned. I had a holden commodore with rust in the silt rail, Vicroads (state road authority) saw it and wrote it off. I also had a Ford Falcon with rust around the windscreen. When the windscreen got replaced, I had to sign a waiver that I was responsible for any injuries if the windscreen popped out due to less adhesion to rust area. He made a valiant effort to treat the rust on the spot and cover it with rubber cement. It is mandatory to have snow chains on cars if in snowy areas as we dont allow salting on Australian roads.

@@wonniewarrior yeah, most states in USA have no routine safety inspection. The ones I’ve had experience with, didn’t seem to care much about body rust. I’m not even sure they’d care much about frame rot. I lived in Germany for a couple years & they were a lot more strict than anything I’ve seen in the USA.

@@jeffs2809 In my state of Victoria, your car only needs a roadworthy when ever it changes hands (transfer), or ordered by Vicroads or police. In NSW, it a basic roadworthy test every year. Each state has their own rules. What legal in 1 state may be illegal in another state such as towball weight rating, trailer length, what type of bullbar allowed between each states and if allowed to have a radar detector.

Glad I watched this, I have done brake jobs since the 60's and I thought I had better check You Tube to see the new brake designs and for any special tools req'd. I like how the pads just drop in and held with a simple clip.

Fantastic video as always Eric O! I just did my son's 2018 Escape after he said it "sounds like it's grinding". Inner left rear pad, GONE! Metal to metal. Wish I could attach a photo, it would give you a chuckle.
