Reminds me of when I did boxing as a youngster. My coach could not accept I was a natural southpaw. He demanded I fight orthodox . I had to give up. I was getting no joy from the sport, which was a pity. It's similar to a Left hander learning guitar. They can also face problems.

That's pretty terrible from your coach. There were no other coaches in the area? Have you considered taking it up again?

OMG, your coach was coaching Sonny Liston.

better to learn guitar righty that way you can pick up just about any guitar anywhere and be able to play it since 90% of them are built to play right handed. tho lefty guitar looks way cooler

thank you for explaining the step and 'drag' technique! i was having trouble sometimes stepping too little or too much and moving fairly awkwardly trying to get it just right each time

@@expertboxing thank you! i was practicing my combos today, just shadowboxing and naturally i started to use this technique to adjust my reach and close in the space between me and my 'target' with sufficient speed. i wasn't even thinking of this video at the time. i guess i just needed to get more comfortable practicing to find the natural flow of things. :)

I had to search google to find you sir.. I'll be using your vídeos from the beginning because i am right handed but for the past two days i have been using my left hand to do things so as to fight in a southpaw stance..i have no prior experience in boxing and its rare to see coaches on youtube dedicating lots of content for southpaw. You have yourself a sub

I’d be interested in some thoughts on southpaw vs orthodox footwork. I.e. controlling the moving right vs moving left rotation, closing distance without the jabs or heads clashing, etc.

Hey man, I’ve seen this italian glove brand called LEONE, i’m looking for a new pair and I live in Brazil so i can’t really get access to the top brands like Reyes, Winning, Rival and etc. With this Leone ones, I can’t find any reviews on them online (which i’m seeing as a red flag). Are they any good? Great vid!

Why would you drag your foot? Idragging your foot would take power away from your back and hinder your defense. Instead of push off the ball of your back foot. You bring your leg and power with your 4 points rotation. And you can turn angles or get in and out. As a pro coach, I never had worked under anyone who told our boxers to drag to step with the front foot and drag the back. It's also intimate move with your back leg and let the point of the front glide over

You’re supposedly a trainer yet you have no idea why coaches teach the step-drag? C’mon man. Seriously??????? If you understand common beginner punching mistakes, I’m sure you’d figure out the answer in 5 seconds of thinking. Anyway….since you claim to be a coach, I’m just gonna ignore this assume you’re fucking around pretending not to know.
@deriksantos38062 жыл бұрын
@@expertboxing hey supposed expert how many top amateurs or pros have you trained?
@expertboxing2 жыл бұрын
I've worked with plenty of amateurs and pros. Top amateurs...zero, and if you're even a trainer you would know why having a top amateur is so fucken hard. Pros are way more common than top amateurs. Regardless, it blows my fucken mind that you don't know why coaches teach step-drag. It's literally the very first thing they teach in boxing first day. And at this point...I'm wondering whether you ever tried boxing. (I'm being 100% honest.)

@@expertboxing Trolls. They should have their own boxing event. Derik Santos would no doubt be in the top heavy weight division. He would move like Teófilo Stevenson and punch like Iron Mike at his best. Ah, dreams. The thing you do when you park reality.😒
