I totally agree about the arteza products, they are way over priced compared to the quality you get. It’s like their trying to get out of the budget category and get into student/ professional without upgrading their products. Looking forward to that video. (Disclaimer I have not tried their products because I’m not paying that much for them)

When they first started out, they really were a good deal. But you're right the price has gone up and up and not just art supplies. They introduced melty beads, like peeler beads, and they were the same price or more. For that I might as well just buy perler

When they first came out they were blatantly misleading people with how they were described. They would also post insane prices, but they’d always be on sale for 60% off. That drives me nuts.

Decluttering is always tough. Good for you for wanting to be organised and using what you really enjoy! Due to health issues I've had to stop working and having less money to spend makes me take a better look at what I do have and enjoy that. Less is more as they say, and for me it's definitely true.

Just do what KZbinrs do. But a few things, record yourself swatching them. Sing praises about everything. Trade supplies with other KZbinrs. Praise everything. Then sell the supplies on eBay. Then companies will just send you crap as long as you sing is praises. Also people will click on your affiliate links and you'll get paid for anything they buy online within the next 24 hours. And I do mean anything. Then use that affiliate money to buy more crap, swatch it, sell it and start all over. Then you'll get paid revenue from KZbin and adsense and you'll never actually have to pay for anything or of your own pocket. Just remember to praise everything and always, but always tell people just how difficult it is to record yourself talking and how extremely difficult it is to edit. Which it isn't. A program does it for you. All you have to do is watch, drag and drop. That's it. This KZbin gimmick is the shit. It's an artificial market created by the very people whom inflate it artificially. KZbinrs watch and subscribe and share with other KZbinrs. Which boosts sales, ads, revenue for all. Just remember, praise everything, sell everything, tell everyone how amazingly difficult your job is. Oh and remember, you are seeking personality, not product. Products will sell automatically through the mere exposure effect whether they are good or not. But telling the truth will make other KZbinrs look bad and will force companies to stop giving you free shit.

I can totally relate to your "don't want to become a collector" comment. I don't know why it is, but I'm the same way. And it comes to a point where I have all this totally redundant paint, paper, canvases, pencils, and art "stuff" all around. You know, like five full sets of 20 colors of gouache paints from different manufactures. Then I say, "What am I doing??? Why do I need ALL this stuff?" Then the purge happens. And then a few years later... right back in the same spot again. Six tubes of Venetian Red oil from six manufacturers! Argh! I am getting better though. Art Supply Addiction is a terrible thing.

I love your make up today. 😊 I won some Arteza coloured pencils and at first I thought it was just me being picky because I'd gone straight into Polychromos pencils first, but I bough a 'watercolour sketch book' from their website and... yeah. Even on sale, I didn't feel it was worth the price. It's fine for dryer media but I've not had happy times using it for watercolour. Derwent grew on me rapidly in the past year, and I love the fact their pencils are available open stock. 😊

I understand. I have the exact same health issues. I'm an open stock type of purchaser. Even for my watercolors. Sets of either include way to many fugitive pigments with the exception of Derwent lightfast, Derwent drawing pencils, my 36 set of Faber & Castell Polychromos and Caran D Ache Luminance. The sets are pretty much all lightfast pigments. I love the Holbein so much! But will only buy open stock since so many are not lightfast. But plenty are! I love Derwent coloursoft but its getting bad reviews of being too soft. I love them!

Really? Wow…I use to have them and remember them being pretty smooth. Have you tried them while using them on a slightly heated surface (kind of like the Icarus board)? It slightly warms the surface so your pigment looks vibrant and smooth. Maybe try that? Use some kind of towel under your hand while drawing for safety measures.

This is a great video. I've been wondering whether to get the Pablo pencils. I'm absolutely dying for the Luminance though so I'll save up for them instead. As a huge Derwent fan who's tried nearly all the pencils, the Procolour range was a strange one because a lot of the colours aren't super lightfast. A lot of professional artists immediately complained after the launch, which is why the Lightfast range was developed very soon after. If anyone reading this is a professional artist, I say skip the Procolour and save your money for the Lightfast. I'm not really sure which audience the Procolour range was aimed at. The Coloursoft formula is GORGEOUS, great for colouring and blending.

Getting rid of your harder pencils was a great choice for you. If you find you need them, just buy a few open stock ones of the colors you need. I bought about 10 Pro colors when I found them on clearance. I was very picky on my colors. I find I am happy with what I got. I do use them along side my color soft, especially when I want detail but I don't feel I need more. Your eye shadow is definitely art! I always enjoy seeing what you are going to do with your eyes. I would watch a video if you made one with ink. Take care and Happy Holidays.

I'm not a professional artist, I'm just a coloring book colorist. With that said, I love Arteza. I own the 120 set and I have no problems with them (I don't like the watercolor pencils though). I use them more than my Prismacolor 150 set. But, again I don't use my pencils for professional use, and if I did I would feel the same as Jane does about the Arteza ones when it comes to light fastness. By the way, the Arteza 120 colored pencils were on sale for 40 bucks on Amazon a few months ago and sold out on their site running on sale for 45 bucks. They have good sales sometimes. But, they are costly when not on sale. Merry Christmas Everyone!

Hey Jane 🙂, it's always a pleasure to catch your videos while iam working in my art studio & bindery. I want to thank you for putting out that Holbein lightfast video, because of that NASTY RUMOR that Lisa had started. She has always hated on holbein colored pencils... ALWAYS. I have a article that she wrote 5 years ago bashing them, because people were saying they are the best in the world. She claimed on her video that it was her first time using them.... yet wrote an article 5 years ago - trashing them?!?!?! Yeah... I actually wrote a huge comment on her video about their lightfast ratings and testing methods. But she kept deleting my comment off her comment section. I put it up 4 times!! And finally it stuck around for a bit, and I had her viewers that hang on her every word as gospel, start to hate on me hard lol. Anyways... as a professional artist and Bookbinder, Holbein has been my number one for 7 years! I literally own every complete colored pencil set that is a professional, Artist grade set. You name it, I have the complete set lol. Same with watercolor pencils and pastel pencils, I use all of them harmoniously together.... but I ALWAYS have atleast 2 - Holbein 150 sets in my studio at all times. No lie, but I buy mine straight from Japan. They are double the price here. Also I have severe Fibromyalgia and my dr.s had my on gabapentin for along time and it didn't really help. They moved me to Lyrica and it's been a God send! Specially with bookbinding large large orders of my Hardbound goatskin leather watercolor sketchbooks, made with the choice of Saunders, Fabriano Artistico and Arches. It's alot of standing and bending over tables and benches, plus handing stitching every single page into my own special binding technique that I developed from many other techniques. My spins are bulletproof with wet and dry media... tons of water and my spines lay completely flat, never crack, split break or come apart... also I make it so they can be restored for complete restorations centuries from now ! I hand marbled my own papers too... and make my own watercolor paints. Dealing with Fibromyalgia and trying to kill it in the " productivity department " is challenging enough, let own other issues 😑. So yeah, sorry for ranting... but I've been meaning to thank you for putting out that Holbein vid and putting that nasty rumor that " YOU KNOW WHO " started. She knew what she was doing... but you knew what she was doing even better that her!!!! Hahahahaha Have a great one Jane 🙂

Hey Janey Jane...Long time no watch you! I do hope you're well! Wow, decluttering can never be overrated. I need to do some of that too. I think it's sort of refreshing and makes room for more stuff...that may need to be decluttered one day too...but if it gives you some kicks when you buy it...and you can afford it, then who cares?...being a bit silly there. But as we "mature" I think we see that we can live with less and be perfectly happy. Keep asking yourself: Do I really need that? I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and holiday season and that 2022 will be a good one for you. Heaven knows we need to have a good year...with 2020 & 2021...but there's still a lot of craziness out there, so I guess we better all buckle up. 👍. Take care & be safe!

Good to hear from you, Nancy! I know what you mean when you say we can live with less and still be happy.
