This has been one of my favorite songs since the mid 70;s, although it is seldom heard on mainstream radio. This live version with Bruce, Stevie and CC with Southside Johnny and the Asbury Dukes is the best I've ever heard. Wish I were there!!!

Oh man that sounds like me. Just saw South Side again New Years Eve. 2023 had not seen him since 1983 at The Capitol Theater in Passaic (Still puts on a great show) sure miss the CAP, saw him the first time at Saint Peter's College 1976 or so, thought he was great then too. He was singing with that soulful voice and the Miami Horns belting it out!!! Man that is what music should be. Oh yea lets not forget Bruce, Steve and the BIGMAN!!!!

Even though I see this is Cleveland, and I can only dream of a night at the Stone Pony watching Southside and the Jukes, Bruce, Clarence, Lou Christie, or Mad Dog, circa 1976 what I missed in my 20's. Saw Bruce on the Born to Run tour at the Masonic Temple in Detroit, and I've never seen a better show!

Yeah, but you know what ... it's the family ... Bruce, Southside, Miami Steve ... the guys that preached the Jersey shore sound ... I grew up soaking it in the late 70s into the 80s in Asbury Park. Doesn't matter who sings better or who wrote what ... you had to be there to really understand how it all came together.

I saw bruce with a very good friend at the Theater for the Performing Arts in New Orleans in 1977, I think - the same week he hit the cover of Time and Newsweek. He was awesome. My friend knew who he was. I didn't. Was totally blown away by Bruce, the band entirely, Clarence, et al. The tickets were crazy - $5 or $7. Something totally crazy. :) Springsteen is a Living National Treasure. So very few are like him.

Bruce was very reluctant in those days, probably through advice from Landau, to release too much music at once, even though he was ALWAYS writing great songs. This is one reason why he had enough material (and then some) make Tracks a 4-disc box set. I take it for granted now, but before 1998, the only way I could hear Bruce’s version of The Fever was on a cassette I’d made from WMMR playing it one day. Looking back it seems cool to have lived through those restrictions, now that I can hear the fever at any time I feel like it, but it was pretty frustrating…but it helped maintain an air of mystery ariund Bruce, too, which was beneficial to his career.

Truly one of the most memorable club shows I ever was lucky enough to experience right up front. Bruce had a blast on stage singing his song that Johnny covered o sooooo well. Khavian, please read about Shuggie Otis and what he said on the subject. Puts it all into perspective just as Iggriffin did so eloquently. These two guys sing from their hearts under no pretense of anything else. What comes out supersedes race, my friend. In this case, it was a great performance of inner soul.

Bruce and his band played a live concert broadcast there in August '78 for WMMS's 10th anniversary as part of the "Darkness" tour. If it was around that time, then Steve and Bruce being there that night would make sense. Several years later, Southside and the Jukes played Blossom Music Center with Clarence Clemmons and his band, "The Red Bank Rockers" as the opening act. Rumors were rampant that Bruce was going to make a "surprise" appearance at the show, but he didn't.

Bruce owns this song. He was laying back after just having performed a 3+ hour concert just prior. This is a SSJ gig and Bruce let him do his thing. Having seen both Bruce and Southside perform from their early days at the Upstage in Asbury Park I can tell you that SS was always in Bruce's shadow because he never did his own thing - he imitated Bruce....a lot.....even to the point where people would be yelling "Bruce" when Johnny was singing.

well to be fair ssj wasn't loaded - rather, he was in the finale of his agora show. otoh bruce had come from his own earlier show, but had cleaned up. the vid is cool to see, but to be honest it kind of drags along. this clip was the formerly unseen end of the weekly 'onstage at the agora' tv show. bruce did not want to allow his parts on tv at the time so it sat in the can for all these years, i am surprised the tape survives. earlier was a great jukes show too, that part was def televised.
