As a student pilot who is also deaf just seeing this gives me more support on being a airline pilot I didn't know there was an internship deaf pilot working for southwest when southwest say the treat you like family I definitely see the family bond in the airline

“ How is it possible that I can even do this with my hearing loss?” Baby, Deaf people can do everything hearing people can do, except hear. And with the way technology is changing so rapidly, it is possible to have protocols in place so that Deaf and HOH people can fly. Well done Southwest for recognizing this. 🎉

Very inspiring. I have a similar struggle with a vision issue that everyone though would prevent me from being a pilot (in fact, some flat out said it would be impossible). However, after much perseverance and evaluations I was able to qualify for a First Class medical and begin flight training. I only got my PPL and had to stop my training due to a lack of funding but it's good to see that others with health issues are not letting it prevent them from fulfilling their dreams. I hope Jordan succeeds and I hope one day I can finish up my training too. Nothing is impossible folks!

Wow! Thanks for such an encouraging comment, I do worry about my vision, but I would love to become a 737 Captain for SWA very soon. Excellent comment, and I do hope for the best in the near future for you

Thanks, I hope things work out for you. I wouldn't worry too much about your vision. My case isn't significantly bad, but if I can do it, I think just about anyone can. It was a lot of work, but no one with health issues should concluded that they can't fly.

Islandsoundzz Yea, as I would say I am near-sighted, and wear glasses
@Islandsoundzz8 жыл бұрын
Well in that case you won't have a problem at all.

Same here, I'm on the spectrum and I am dying to become a pilot!

Good news: Autism isn’t a disqualifying condition to be a pilot.

Kudos for following your dream Jordan. I wish I was able to find a way with my color deficiency. Too old (47) now,lol
@marcwatson55337 жыл бұрын
Carm N You're never too old, the maximum age to start training is 55.

So true. I'm more than halfway through getting my private pilot (as a hobby). But I always had that dream of flying commercially. I think Australia allows first officers only to have color def. but i may be wrong. thanks and safe flying
@petep.20927 жыл бұрын
Did they recently introduce an age restriction on training?! I don't recall seeing it in the FARs for Certification of Airmen when I was in training, but that was 27 years ago.
@ctn8307 жыл бұрын
no age restriction. i only meant with regard to where i am in life and family. But i still have that color thing which i think with today's technology should be removed. Hey if they removed that they might noit have any pilot shortage,lol

This video is somewhat misleading. it's great that he got a third class medical but the truth of the matter is that he isn't going to be flying 737s with a third class medical... I am moderately deaf and there's no way I can get a class 1 medical required to fly commercially. The problem isn't deaf pilots per se, but more the ancient technologies still in use in the aviation industry. (VHF radios etc)
