0:28 - "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to leave you all alone." I feel that Marnie(her spirit)was apologizing to Anna for, not leaving her in the old silo, but leaving her alone in the world with no other family to love and take care of her. When Hisako is telling Anna and Sayaka about when Marnie took in her granddaughter(Anna), she vowed to make sure she didn't feel the same loneliness she felt. Marnie failed this when she became sick and passed away. So, a apparition of Marnie reappears to help Anna accept her foster parents and open herself up.
Absolutely. I've thought of it that way too. Another way to interpret it is that Anna is also forgiving herself. I believe the reason they picked the movie poster with Anna and Marnie standing back to back was because "Anna and Marnie are the same person." (reference the "It seems we've changed places" from earlier in the story.) The "of course I forgive you" is also to herself. The change from stormy weather to sunny is representative of Anna's own healing.

yes, I also think that's the meaning. Anna is suffering for abandonment. She has grown with the feeling of having been abandoned, undesired, passed from one person to another, to the point of suspecting her step mother of having adopted her just for money and not because she is a beautiful child that deserves to be loved. In the moment Anna understands that Marnie loved her and didn't abandon her, Anna reaches her inner healing. As the person above me commented, the unusual sudden change of the weather is symbolic and represents the sudden realization that perhaps she was taken care by different people in her childhood not because she was unlovable. She has no reason to keep hating herself.

@c0mpu73rguy Жыл бұрын
