Finally, we got a new game, with solid tools to simulate cinematic naval combat in a way that we dream of. As you know MoWAS2 or GoH lacks these capabilities so today, we created a naval cinematic of the Soviet Navy vs the US Navy in the 80s. In a fictional last stand duel, located at Bering Strait, Diomede Islands, this marks the border of these two superpowers. The US is known for its powerful navy, with Aircraft carriers and Iowa-class Battleships, the Soviet's best chance was to make their fewer ships and nuclear submarines simply more powerful. What do you think who would dominate the seas?

@@Daishi18 This is not a MiG, this is a Yak-38, this is a Vertical Take-Off and Landing. And this is not an aircraft carrier, this is a cruiser/aircraft carrier - a cruiser that is armed with missiles and also carries vertical take-off aircraft. However, vertical take-off aircraft are inferior to traditional ones.

If the Iowa Class, can came close to use those 16 inch guns and the ship is supported by other screening ships, the enemy wouldn't stand a chance against those 16 inch guns. The weight of its shell is a ton each and one or two hits from them can sink an enemy vessel.

@bkjeong4302 yes that's another thing, with the carrier in the task force, it will engage the enemy fleet using only it's attack aircraft. But its just a surface group without the Carrier around, and that fleet with the Iowa's got close to the enemy fleet, well, that 16 inch gun will do a lot of damage.

​@@bkjeong4302 Realistically it can't. The soviet ships would simply turn around and keep their distance, largely ignoring the BB and targeting the carrier and cruisers, leaving the BB for last by lobbing whatever remaining missiles they have at it.

There is a reason why Battleships don’t exist anymore. The massive guns are just too short range compared to missiles. I think the U.S. navy just kept these battleships around for shore bombardment capabilities.

Ну хз честно, я пока в эту игруху не играл, может быть тут более лучший ИИ, чем тот что был в cold waters epic mod. Там конечно в тебя пускали ракеты, но создавалось впечатление, что ии противника оценивает тебя как подводную лодку. Ведь сама игруха про подводные лодки в основном. Поэтому он пускал ограниченное число ракет, но скажу честно в том моде советский флот был самым мощным и лёгким. Про Киров вообще молчу, за него заходишь, выпускаешь все ракеты на авианосную группу и превращаешь её в пыль. В прямом смысле, ведь у него в боекомплекте имеются 2 гранита с ядерной бч. И при попадании образуется в прямом смысле гриб

Battle for retaking Iceland from the Russians could likely be a such a possible naval slugfest. If Russia exhausted most of their anti-ship missiles from aircraft, ships, and subs going after convoys and had their resupply ships interdicted by US subs right when a planned NATO offensive was going to occur, they would be a terrible position. The Iowa class battleship would be well suited for that type of offensive against a Russian surface fleet depleted of anti-ship missiles and offering fire support afterwards for an amphibious landing by a separate surface action group. The only major threat would be the Russian submarines.

Wonder how many years the Russian fleet could rebuild. Also they should invest more in submarines as they are honestly likely the only naval ships that would pose a threat as the cruisers, Destroyers, frigates can all be destroyed by missiles, artillery, bombs, torpedos. As Submarines are a lot harder to detect even if they are detected it still take a while to track them. Don't know why the soviets went with a similar strategy to the world war 2 germans which knew they could never dominate the seas and instead went with stealthy submarines

They do pour lots of money into their submarine fleet, probably more than any other part of their military.

The USSR fleet chose submarines as the main striking force for a number of reasons: 1. The USSR did not have enough money and industrial power to have a fleet like the USA. That is why it chose the path of an asymmetrical fleet. 2. The US and USSR fleets have different goals. The American fleet needs to establish control over the shipping corridor from America to Europe to ensure the transfer of troops across the North Atlantic. The USSR fleet needs to limit the connection between America and Europe as much as possible, at least for a couple of months, until the Soviet divisions push through NATO defenses and occupy Western Europe. 3. The USSR/Russia has huge problems with access to the World Ocean. There are few safe places for naval bases. It is easier to organize basing of a submarine fleet than a fleet consisting of huge aircraft carriers and cruisers. However, in the USSR, Admiral Gorshkov (the father of the Soviet Navy) was constantly criticized for paying more attention to the submarine fleet than to the surface fleet. Sorry for the mistakes, my English is bad.

And here's another thing. In fact, the Soviet fleet's main striking force was not submarines, but bombers with large anti-ship missiles. Like the Tu-22M with Kh-22 missiles. According to Admiral Gorshkov's plan, it was the bombers that were supposed to sink NATO's main ships and convoy.

Despite its great power, the fleet was a grave mistake for the USSR. It simply did not justify the costs and efforts for its existence. The Americans had a more powerful fleet, but repeating something similar to "Overlord" against the USSR was unrealistic under any circumstances. Nuclear deterrence by submarine forces was too complex and expensive to be justified, not to mention the risks for ordinary conscript sailors.

If the fleets would attack each other from a more realistic distance that battleship would not be able to shoot accurate shoot, or any at all on the enemy fleet, because missiles outranges its main armament.

@@Shilka23-4Nah. Atleast 60%. The Russian Submarine fleet is up to date and fully functional. The Russians take special care to keep their submarine fleet in top notch conditions. And they are steadily replacing old vessels with new ones(and in a bizzare twist, Ukraine is helping in that, since all the boats they have sunk were old Soviet era vessels)
