About:
Jason and Lorraine. In 2016 we sold most of our belongings and left the city in southern California to start a small homestead in the mountains of North Carolina. We left the city in search for a more minimal and intentional life. We became passionate about growing our own food and knowing what exactly is in our food after I (Jason) became diagnosed with cancer. Now 8 years in remission we as a family are on a journey to live our passions.
We document our life on KZbin videos to inspire others to get out of their comfort zone and not be afraid of change. We started our own online general store where we have available the things we make and use in real life. Thank you for following us on this incredible life changing journey!

Lorraine, fantastic video and thanks for sharing your recipe! I have a TBI from a pretty bad motorcycle crash in November when a car ran a stop sign and hit me on the highway, and my brain is super sensitive to all foods now. For cooking oils, I can only use a medium chain oil like organic coconut oil or pasture-raised hog lard is also awesome, which we happen to raise heritage hogs so that's a blessing to have it from our farm here. For butter, I react immediately to any canola or pressed seed or vegetable oil so we just use grass fed butter and it's great fat for my brain recovery as brain cells need good fat when they regenerate and seek to make new connections. Do you know how much and what kind of fat is in coconut butter? I'm guessing it is the good kind of saturated fat that we need and might be okay for me and I'll do some research if you don't happen to know and get back to you. 1.7 million people get TBIs each year in the US and I was shocked when I became one of them. I want to help others through my experience of trying to make a comeback by God's grace!

I tried doing this tonight. I got to the second state (crumbly, but not creamy), and it would not go any further. Immediately after I turned on the processor, it'd all fly to the sides or underneath the blades and not make any progress. I didn't try a smaller batch. Would it be better if I simply had more flakes in there to get hit by the blades? I tried all sorts of things once it wasn't proceeding. I tried my small smoothie blender and my hand blender as well. I tried adding a little coconut oil, thinking maybe it was just too dry. Nothing worked.

Everything was perfect until I added a teaspoon of maple syrup then it clumped up and all my hard work went to the trash! don’t put maple syrup in at the end or at all just to be safe! I don’t know what chemical reaction happened to my coconut butter but the maple syrup ruined it!
