The plastic, -even inside your greenhouse, you can grow even less hardy winter crops if they have a double layer of plastic so create hoop rows underneath your greenhouse for the super cold nights and less hardy crops.
@laurarich259910 күн бұрын
Coming here to say the same! Eliot Coleman has many great books on gardening year round (in my home state of Maine) by adding smaller hoop houses directly over beds inside an unheated greenhouse.Don't throw that plastic away!

I like the reset between projects. Good to be able to see progress. I made homemade scratch chicken and rice "sick" soup today for my son and working on quilt row piecing and sewing with merely a needle, thread, fingers , pins and scissors ✂️. 😂. So I truly appreciate seeing progress as well. Yesterday was pinning my rectangular "squares" together. ( Made from old clothes pieces and pieces of sheets and blankets) That took quite a bit. Now I see a mountain BUT I KNOW that when I'm listening/ watching vids I can still be making progress. Same with taking crochet with me for when I have to sit and wait. Dishcloths are accomplished! Every little bit helps with feeling productive! I also use all my carrot including the greens. Any "peeling/ scraping" and "end pieces" go in my stock bags as I'm in a prohibited birds & farm animals location. But we each do what we can.

@catswambo970610 күн бұрын
That thick plastic is worth gold. It can temporarily cover things from rain outside, it can protect when you are painting, it can be used as liner or cover if you transporting things home... the minute one throws a thing away you say damn wish I kept it. But then hoarding is my big problem.

If you want those wooden posts to last longer get some tar from the hardware store. A weed burner setup(Propane tank and torch ed) and hose to go between tank and torch, probably about 6 feet of hose. lay your posts up on some scrap lumber then literally scorch them over the entire post. This alone will decrease the ability of pests to intrude and will seal some of the pores in the wood that allow for moisture to intrude. Next paint the entire portion of the post with the tar that you will put below ground plus a few inches above. let it dry. That will increase the life of every post you drop in the ground by not allowing water to enter it from below ground. One last thing to help them last. You need to put a metal cap over the top of the post to help it shed water away from the core of the post.. Overall this will just about double the life of a post unless you literally put it into a depression in the ground that holds inches of water most of the time. We used to do this even with locust posts and cedar posts, this significantly increases the life of any wooden post. if you have trouble finding metal caps by some galvanized tin get yourself a big old tall tree section, and get 8 inches of a solid end of one of those posts you are removing. This is going to be the mold you will use to make caps,. cut a circle of tin out and hold it to the center of the post use a metal hammer to pound the edges protruding over the edge of the post downward literally making a downward drip edge.. We would mount them using a nail or if we had them a good lag bolt for wood putting a dab of tar down around the base of the screw or nail to seal the top from leaking into the post. If you set this up in a shop you cut the metal blanks first then you can make a cap in about two minutes or less then all that is left is about another 2 minutes to mount it to the top of the post. The time-consuming part s scorching the posts and tarring the bottoms. But that pays for itself by not having to replace that post for over 15 years.

If the plastic is wide enough you could build caterpillar tunnels. Use them in winter inside the high tunnel or in the outside garden for frost protection. I’ve fenced my property all by hand, post hole digger, sod buster, shovel & sawzall. Lots of work & physical labor. You have added heavy compacted sticky clay soil which makes digging & auger post holes more difficult, time & labor intensive.

Thank you for the pep talk. I needed it. Ive been putting off pounding fence posts. Even though we desperately need permanent fencing for our dogs, horse and goats. Seperating our field into 3 lanes and fencing the whole thing in. Ive been waiting for help and, with my terminal little sister needing 24/7 care, and my mom and i being her full time providers, i doubt i will be getting much for help. It wont get done... but man it seems so daunting. One post at a time i spose. Maybe set a goal of pounding as many as i can when i can. ❤ thank you. Our end goal is to have all 5 acres fenced in. But half our property has a lot of clearing that needs to be done so. Smaller, most inportant projects first. I love our home canned chicken. Quick easy meals. Much love from washington ❤

🤔🤔🤔 Just a thought. 1) with the water rushing down the hill and accumulating at the barn it would probably be prudent to put in a large French drain alongside of and leading away from the barn. And 2) with the stray and feral dogs as well as other possible threats it’s pretty much imperative, to acquire a pair of large guard, dogs/livestock guardian to roam your property and alert, when danger is present. It would be easy to use one of the empty stalls closest to the barn’s entrance as their sleeping area. Anyway good luck with your KZbin channel and homestead endeavors.
