The debate over the health effects of soy continues as many believe soy can be dangerous for your health. Dr. Weil believes including whole soy foods into your diet is a much better choice than isolated soy components, which are often found as an additive in many foods.

About half of Japanese soy consumption is non-fermented soy (e.g. tofu, edamame, etc.). Also, it’s not that difficult to find non-GMO tofu if you look for it....most GMO SOF is fed to livestock in the US.

Tell me one thing what is wrong about soy being genetically modified??? People lie about things and make it an issue. Do you know what genetic modification is and how its done??? The soy plants are genetically modified to produce traits like insect resistance, increased produce etc...as it is not possible to add such phenotypic features which are not present in the wild. These modifications are not going to cause you any harm. All of this is just a marketing gimmick to give GMO free label to a certain foodstuff and make it costlier. I also believed the GMO is bad concept a few years back but when i got to learn and know these things closely(I'm a medical student) I realized that all that hatred against GMO was just bogus

@@videomemes9363 GMO crops are also about money. Like producing plants with no seeds so farmers always have to go back to the company. There are also lots of studies surrounding this topic funded by people with economic interests in GMO crops. And the peer-review process is not funded at all. There is a huge issue because a lot of science is only peer-reviewed by scientists in their free time at their own expense. But the science is propagated like it is established and there is a mass consensus.

The main problem with the information he's giving is that all of the soy that they eat in Japan is fermented (Natto). That's where the benefits come from because it's loaded with K2. Unfermented doesn't have the same benefits. And you'd want to make sure it's Non-GMO. I don't think they allow Monsanto to corrupt their plants in Japan, but I could be wrong.

Soy products, both soy protein isolates and soy isoflavones, induce profoundly beneficial effects on the human cardiovascular system. Early human studies showed that long-term intake of soy protein rich in isoflavones could improve blood lipid profiles, at least in part by increasing expression of receptor molecules that take up LDL cholesterol.21 In fact, soy protein and isoflavones have universally been shown to lower LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, while some studies have also documented increases in beneficial HDL cholesterol as well.22,23 Along with phytic acid, another soy component, soy isoflavones significantly lower homocysteine levels and positively influence other biomarkers of cardiovascular disease risk.24-2

There are actually many studies in regards to the benefit of isolated soy proteins - the results show a negligible, or nil effect. The only benefit of soy comes from whole soy consumption. Still only a 3-6% reduction in LDL cholesterol levels, but the intake of new soy should also displace some animal protein previously in the diet, which will also help lower to LDL.

For starters, Asian populations TRADITIONALLY ate soy as a CONDIMENT!! Not as a meal. AND, it was TRADITIONALLY FERMENTED soy. Miso, tempeh, natto. Tofu is not healthy. Neither is soy milk. Unfortunately, Asian populations have more recently acquired more of a western food philosophy. Look at their rising obesity rates and other health problems. Secondly, MOST soy in the US is GMO. Frankenfoods. And probably most important is that soy is an endocrine disruptor (think thyroid). Is it any wonder there is an epidemic of hypothyroidism (sluggish thyroid) in the US? So, whether organic (non-GMO) or GMO, soy is not good for you.

***** Itachi, It is a fact that we need healthy fats to absorb the fat-soluble vitamins like A, E, D. that's why they call them fat-soluble. The negatives outweigh the benefits regarding soy consumption. Fat does not equate to being fat. It is not fats per se that is causing the problems. The switch from coconut oil and other healthy fats in favor of the vegetable oils that turn to trans-fats have a more negative effect on the body than eating healthy fats such as coconut products, avocados, grass-fed meats, etc... Look up the cholesterol myth. I agree with you on dairy. I eat a little lactose free yogurt myself, but the pasteurized milk is unhealthy. Raw milk is best, but only if your digestion system can easily handle breaking down the casein and the lactose.

It is absolutely staggering to me that this man is able to quietly discuss soy and all of its international regional dietary impacts without ever mentioning GMOs. Over 90% of the soy in the US is genetically modified. I seriously wonder where folks like this presenter here get their funding. Are they oblivious to the GMO issue, or have they bought into one of the two faces that Monsanto puts out: FACE1) GMO soy is no different from organic soy; FACE2) Oh, our GMO soy is completely different from any other soy? FACE1 is used to talk to the public, while FACE2 is used at the US patent office. You be the judge -- in the meantime let's get GMO-'foods' (some might call them 'Frankenfoods') labled as such!!!!! For now, he's not my "trusted health advisor"!

Ridiculous! He has no clue! Never really did like this guy! Pfffft! He has not done his homework or seem to know the difference between fermented and unfermented soy. Not mentioned the anti-nutrients, enzyme inhibitors. And not to mention that Most all soy In the US is genetically modified. Who's side is he on? Evil?!or ignorant?

Unless you have an allergy or intolerance to Soy, there is really no reason to not consume it, that goes for dairy and wheat/gluten!!
