Heavy plates only have a third of the weight of a heavy block. Light armor plates have the full weight of a light block.

I tested it and can confirm, light blocks and light panels have the same grid mass. And heavy panels have around half the grid mass of heavy blocks.

In case anyone was wondering about the exact numbers (I know I was.) Heavy panels weigh in at 66 kg, while the Heavy block is 112 kg, light blocks and panels are 20 kg.

@@The15thGamerYT it’s because of the material components in the blocks. A light block and light panel requires one steel plate so it can’t go lower than 20kg

As always: Thank you for the nice video!! In my opinion every "Space Engineer" has to decide where to go: Easy -> functional and more usability, or less functionall and more design Hard -> implement your high usabiilty in a really nice design with subgrids that does not go CLANG And for Spaceships more than Rovers: What kind of purpose does it serve: combat, recon, mining or construction. Especially combat vehicles serve different tasks and require different strenghts and for the most part combinations of: offensive capabilities, armor, armor layout and propulsion. For me the principle of form follows function works the best. Create your function first, including your propulsion. Have in mind what your ship is capable of: pure Spaceship or capable of entering orbits or even able to surface 1G planets.

I'd recommend placing a rotor under the turret and custom turret block for some horizontal targeting!

Google images is your friend. Sometimes you can find accurate spec sheets too with measurements. It doesn't take much to convert if you know the dimensions of the blocks in the game. 2.5 m for big block and .5 for small.

The armor plates as the chassis will make a huge difference as always had problems with full blocks bulking everything out too much and just using active components you would have to disassemble half the rover to move something!
