always warms my heart to see a little ray of 32X positivity…even if mine sat almost entirely unused after purchase

This game was The Never Ending Story / Robotech as a game when it came out. There was nothing like it in 85, absolutely dazzling!

I will say, I think it has one of the most random sets of enemies in videogames.

I love the Space Harrier series. I even have Air Twister (Yu Suzuki's spiritual sequel to the Space Harrier series). Sadly, I don't have the 32X version. I have 14 32X games and sadly I never saw Space Harrier in stores when I was getting all my 32X games during 1997 (by that time, all the 32X games were going for about $10 each on clearance sales and the 32X itself, with Doom as the pack-in game, was only going for $20). Anyway, the 32X version looks fun.

It's definitely solid and compares very favorably to the Saturn version.

Great arcade game, VERY trippy. Looks fun at home though.

Playing it on a big screen really allows you to be able to see things off in the distance better.

It was such a weird port to do. I never understood Sega pushing out these eighties arcade game ports that were already on the Mega Drive / Genesis. I can only guess they were cheaper to produce than the 3D arcade games we know they had planned.
@CasperEgasАй бұрын
Agreed, but it is still fantastic to play. Much better than Space Harrier 2 on Mega Drive. Something like Golden Axe Revenge of Deathadder would have been so much cooler.
@ZilogandMotoАй бұрын
Cheaper to produce for certain.
@DontCallMeScooterrrАй бұрын
Weird for the time, sure, because who wants "old" games for their new system, for like $70 in 1995. But in hindsight 30 years later, I would LOVE to have a set of near perfect ports of the rest of the classic super scalers and mid 80s games like OutRun, Thunder Blade, Super Hang On, Galaxy Force on cartridge for 32x.
@miketate3445Ай бұрын
I don't know if you guys were there or not, but this was mind blowing in 1995 no matter how old the original was. You couldn't just play Space Harrier whenever you wanted before this. Nothing at home could do anything like this.
@DontCallMeScooterrrАй бұрын
@@miketate3445 I was there, but as a dumb 18-19 year old, I had moved on to the shiny new thing being pushed in the magazines of the day, polygon graphics. That's why the only 32x carts I had from its retail run before Sega pulled the eject lever were Virtua Racing and Star Wars Arcade. I already had AfterBurner, Space Harrier, even MK2 for either Genesis or Master System, better versions of what I already played for years weren't on my radar. In my old age I have become far more cultured and lament not emptying out the 32x clearance bin back then haha.

I knew corndog was a food, but did not know how it is made. That US pre-release cover art was really strange.
@ZilogandMotoАй бұрын
It might the most pre-release cover I've ever seen.

I’ve never played a super scaler game like this but I’ve always thought they look fun and colorful.

To this day, playing the Deluxe version of Power Drift at random arcade in Myrtle Beach is still one of my gaming highlights.

Excellent
@mamehazeАй бұрын
The original, still undumped (probably lost forever) arcade prototype of Space Harrier had you controlling what looked like a harrier jet. I guess that's where the title really comes from.
@mamehazeАй бұрын
also the arcade does have continues, I guess they just turned them off in some of the ports. the arcade is also a bit weird in that you get more lives based on how many coins you insert (so if you insert more coins at any point, even without the continue screen up, you'll get more lives)
@ZilogandMotoАй бұрын
Good to know. I was just going based on the Yakuza ports which don't have continues, or the coin option.
@ZilogandMotoАй бұрын
There's also a cheat to play as the After Burner jet in the SMS version, I'm assuming a nod to that.
@CasperEgasАй бұрын
Never eaten a corndog in my life, but I know what they are.

Despite the thorough and high-quality nature of your videos, I just can’t do it. I detest any games that are set in this angle/view. I suppose I don’t know of any other format in which you could play a game with this kind of concept and get the same experience. But it definitely isn’t for me.
@ZilogandMoto14 күн бұрын
Completely understand. Not everything is for everyone. I'm even seeing as I get older that there's games I don't enjoy anymore that I did when I was younger.
