Hot Tip: if you put different types of machines in their own walled-off rooms you can avoid problems like the water vapour produced by your hydroponics. In a separate room you can set the temperature and light they need without worrying about their effect on other machines. The crew also hates noise from industrial machines, so you can put those in their own room to improve their comfort level. If you select the view mode menu on the bottom the right (hotkey RP) it brings up a selection of overlays so you can easily see what needs to be in it's own room and what is causing a problem.

I feel like this game has mastered the anxiety of slow decline. In games like Rimworld it’s all crisis based, but this game you struggle to survive under the normal circumstances, but not so violently that it’s fight or flight. It’s like a slow sinking feeling with a dash of hope. I can’t describe it well.

I much prefer it when you skip the tutorial/setup for survival and colony building games like this. I feel that 90% of those games have the same exact start so it's refreshing to start out at a point when the game can start to differentiate itself from other titles in the genre. Keep on keepin' on Splat!

Yeah, it's pretty far from being done. They got a huge roadmap paid for by their Kickstarter backers, and I think they are maybe half way through it. I've been watching Bugbyte since the beginning, I'm a big fan of their mobile games. This is their first "Real" game.
@KingHunter8682 жыл бұрын
But what do you mean there's no purpose? It's basically open world open interpretation etc...
@tiemanowo2 жыл бұрын
@@KingHunter868 Yes. it is an "open world" game, but in those kind of games you have some "progression" mechanics: missions / questing, leveling, gathering some items, encouters, dungeons, Boses, etc. In Space Haven right now there is nothing like that. Outside of your own ship you can basically do two things: mining and salvaging to make your ship bigger which force you to do more mining and more salvaging to keep your ship running.
@artix0032 жыл бұрын
@@tiemanowo there is an end goal the game finishes after reaching that place but i do agree its not yet implemented to know about it and ive never actually gotten to try and reach it since i got bored before trying. Its just basically survival until you become self sufficient and that is time gated by locking it behind research and having the energy, fuel, food long enough to unlock those. Once you figured out a layout design to your liking everything else becomes a grind at that point which is long enough to be worth the price.

Space Haven: Only get if it is on sale. I wouldn't pay full price for this game. If you got it on sale, you won't have to feel bad about the many glaring issues this game faces. Has potential, but not quite there Space Haven has the basics it needs to qualify for the Dwarf Fortress/RimWorld genre, but a simple lack of depth and variety hamper its ability to play in the same league as its predecessors. When you aren't sending the same away teams to clear an abandoned starship of the games two monster units, you are engaging in ship-to-ship battle with the same two starship weapons and/or performing your standard set of colonist operations (mining, crafting, researching, etc). You may also opt to board a starship with your away team and enslave the crew, but your colonists will do so armed with one of the only four weapons in the game (the pistol, SMG, assault rifle, and shotgun) and a single helmet slot which does not appear to serve a purpose. Perhaps the latter will be utilized in a future update. Outside of this, there really isn't a whole lot to do other than try and survive the game's two random events: solar flares and meteor showers. Even the colonist mechanics/operations fall short of what you'd expect from the genre. There is no equipment quality/durability mechanic in Space Haven, much less an option to craft equipment/furniture using different materials. Resource types are very limited as well. Heck, even the number of existential threats seem pretty limited. I think I've had four or five total colonist tantrums in the many hours I've put into the game. Beyond that, most threats are external. I am sure that mods exist to help cover these gaps, but in its current state Space Haven falls short. I do enjoy the game and will admittedly continue to play it for a while, but it has a bit of a ways to go before I give it the attention I gave RimWorld. I do hope that the devs continue to support though. It definitely has potential. ~DavidAdas

@_____ I want to like this game, it's a neat idea trying to combine Rimworld and FTL together into a new space game like this. I know it's early alpha, but playing this is just painfully boring, my eyes are just glazing over and I'm starting to feel like an NPC after awhile. You gather resources and expand the ship, then jump, interact with a ship maybe, then gather resources, expand the ship, rinse and repeat. It's just painfully boring, especially having just gone a binge playing Factario, where there is never a dull moment.

12:55 Hypoxia (from hypo + oxia) already means low/too little oxygen lol I know, it seems all Greek to many, because it in fact is Greek ;P Hypo means low, under, too little. A hypodermic needle goes, like many words, hypo (under) the derma (skin). Hyper an the other hand means over, too much. Being hypocritical (hypo, under + krinein, to sieve, separate, discriminate, distinguish) means s/o is under-critical, in the sense of he's not critical equally or not thorough enough. Being hypercritical (hyper, over + s.a.) means s/o is overly critical, criticizing too much or is in a too critical, serious state. Last example: Hypertension means too much, high stretch, (in this case blood) pressure. Hypotension means too little, low stretch, (in this case blood) pressure. PS: hyperoxia and oxygen poisoning is a thing and happens mostly in hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) to mainly treat divers with decompression sickness. Hyperbaric (hyper + barys, heavy, baros, weight) btw means over (atmospheric) pressure. The unit bar, as well as barometer comes from barys, the first denoting, the second measuring the 'weight' of the surrounding atmosphere (atmos, vapor + sphaira, sphere).

I played this game for a good while a year or more ago, but there came a point where I wanted to build the biggest ship possible, and because of limitations in sum of ship size over the fleet, the only way I could do this was to build a small ship which could support my sizeable crew, dismantle my (by now rather large) starting ship completely, and only then could I start on the big ship. I got bored in this process and dropped it. Has this flaw been fixed?
