One way queues are reduced is by distributing players to different servers based on their starting selection area You can divide the number of total players on the shard evenly by the number of LZs by sending the overflow to other instances They could also slowly raise server cap at the start to allow for a flow of people exiting the LZs Major city LZs will never be big enough to handle several hundred people at once without looking like ridiculously long hallways of elevators/kiosks. More LZs is the solution. ArcCorp's Areas 1-17 might be a low-hanging fruit.

This was my concern when i heard about multiple people being at the main stations or even space station. Main stations and Space station work just like real life aviation, where ATC (Air Traffic Controllers) do their best to fly in and out an aircraft roughly a mile a part. I believe Atlanta's Airport can manage about 2-3 aircrafts a minute coming in and out.

Yes, spread the players through different settlements around the planet. The actual habs could be reserved for non-residents by their starting selection. And this taking into account that login won't requie a bed because they want us to spawn wherever we logout. The same goes for hangars. In real life we got large commercial airports and smaller secondary airports.

Yeah I think a lot of people don’t realize that there will be game systems that will navigate the issue of overpopulation in LZ’s. Once SC is no longer wiped, and is totally persistent, the servers will stabilize with people being spread out after the initial launch of total persistence. People will start populating planets and setting up settlements, where they most likely will log off and on for the most part. This gets people away from landing zones and they most likely won’t got to LZ’s other than to talk to mission givers, socialize, purchase ships, clothes, and gear, etc. Also another thing to remember is once a substantial amount of Star systems are in place, people will be spread out even more across multiple system. Dynamic server meshing will be the ultimate tool to help lower the amount of people in an area by instancing them to a new plane of existence, if too many people are in an area. This will help with the cue lines and waiting as the population will stabilize to what makes sense for that particular area. I look forward to the day when we log back in in the same spot we logged out. I want beds to do what other games do and that is rest bonuses. The freedom to log out in a spot and log back in the same spot is yet another great thing that will spread people out. There most certainly will be edge cases where a huge amount of people decide to congregate in one space for whatever reason. But with all game systems working, in most normal cases, there won’t be too many people in the same spot.

For the clothing discussion I think it should be carrots not sticks to avoid community backlash. Dressing for the part has a tangible benefit on reputation gain, or different dialogue options etc. Not wearing the right clothes is fine, you can still access the content but maybe dressing for the part means you can skip a 'prove yourself' mission, or gain rep twice as fast for a few missions, or get a slightly better payout etc. Hard blocking people who don't have a tuxedo is bound to annoy people but giving them a reason to do it that will benefit them will encourage that behaviour for those who want to engage.
@Brigadier_Beau17 күн бұрын
I dunno. If you have to meet someone in a swanky place, I don't think you should be allowed past the front door if you are armed and smell like you've been wearing the same space suit for two weeks. You will scare off the customers. There should be some that are more lenient, but others absolutely not. You won't even be able to enter the main cities while armed unless you are an approved bounty hunter.
@Halrin17 күн бұрын
@@Brigadier_Beau I totally get that impulse. I personally don't mind that at all as someone who is happy to lean into the roleplay of it all. My main point is CIG needs to use carrots to encourage behaviour they want to see rather than sticks to discourage community members for not engaging with content in a prescribed way. This would minimize the outrage machine. We have many systems currently prioritizing immersion over ease of accessibility. Striking the right balance here will be key to long term success and I am certainly no expert in how to achieve that.

Star Citizen is about the dream of players never EVER coming to life, this comment is a prime example of what players "think" will happen for them in game, but never will. Their is no reason for clothing, their is no dialogs with a dirrection, only rude npcs at some stores, their is NO real interaction or response or story and you are over here talking about gta6 (possible features) implemented in a game that can't even make concrete and planet grounds solid..... good luck with your dream (it isn't Chris Robberts, you got scammed.) Star Citizens business model is to keep you thinking they will do what YOU want. That's all.

I think this is important. Dev myself and a tech like this that is so foundational has to work 100% of the time all the time. Building a full platform like this with extensive multi service/layer architecture is insanely tedious work. Has to be extremely stable, high performance and scaleable. Yes the progress looks great and promising but worst case it could still take 5 years or they could still fail we have no real insight into the true % progression and even if it would be 90% finished I had projects where the last 10% were 99% of the work or where it was cancelled by some outside power or circumstance even though it was almost finished. That said I am cautiously optimistic we might get a real MMO for the first time in SC history.

100 Star Systems may happen when my great-grandkids have kids. Still, if they hit 1.0 with 3 systems fully fleshed out with content, and server meshing is working stable, where we can have at least 100,000 people online at a time. Then they may have a minimum viable MMO, which they can divide by region to relax the overload effects. They may have to shard each major location, so if 50,000 people decide to choose one spawn location they get sharded. Or they lock down the amount of people who can start at one location spreading them out per server as Once human does it now. Polishing for SQ42 is not like other games, as no other game does what CIG is doing with physical entities and gameplay, so 8-12 months does not apply in this case.

Going back and reading everthing on the Kickstarter, Star Citizen was not built to be an MMO (the PU component was ment to be a co-op/small scale online mode to keep you busy while waiting for the next story campaign). This is why they have such a difficulty to make it work. I'm sure that one day it will work .. but it will be very slow. Also, don't forget that even if you have 500 players on 4 or 6 servers, for the moment, missions are not activated. So on top of congestions at elevators,they'll have to keep track of all the mission progression and cargo (things they deactivated during tests). Add to that later on more NPC's, separate engineering components in every ships that can deteriorate or burst into fire, faction progres, player evolution with skills, etc... Will you be able to chat with your friends in they are in another system, etc ... They make progres, but there is still soooooo much to do before server meshing will be working with the features that are available now .. imagine all they still need to add.

Just some possible context/background to the name Genesis - it's almost certainly in reference to the Genesis Project from Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan - a project effectively meant to take a lifeless planet and create life, although I believe in the movie they ended up accidentally making a planet full of life out of a nebula. In SC terms this could mean a couple different things - 1) Creating living AI and creatures for the existing planets that work together in an ongoing ecosystem. They seem to have been moving in this direction already by adding 3 different animals to the verse. or 2) Creating/generating the planets themselves through some level of procedural/AI generation. OR 3) Some combination of the 2 Hopefully all of this comes with the guidance of a few artists and not purely procedural or left entirely to AI.

I think if they implemented ground shields and defense systems, for Outposts, Distribution centers, and or bunkers. It would create a better and more tactical experience. Having to shut down systems before gaining access to the objectives would create a more in depth experience. Ground shields could compliment base building as well, and you could add charge and drain to "Reinforce or Repair" shield systems, would add complexity to missions, and further purpose ground based vehicles. As it stands, tanks don't really have much of a purpose.

Areas need to be completely reworked for even 1000+ players at a time. Passageways, alleys, entrances - they're all built for the 100 or so players to use and mostly feel like single player FPS scale hubs. That straight up just will not work with that many players online; there's just not enough space. I think this could be a good thing I personally think we could use an update to a lot of the cities, like having more distinct buildings and (hopium engaged) not rely on color coding cities any more. Sq42’s polish has to carry sq42.

cmon now, star citizen is not cooking the game is absolutely unplayable right now. I had big hopes for 2024 they got a lot of new funding but somehow its becoming less and less of a video game

It's a joke honestly, i played the PTU just recently and it sucks absolute ass. It's not even funny anymore. They "cooking" exactly nothing, it's always unbelivable how this community can just straight up be happy about half assed development. At this point i am just gonna wait for Squadron 42 and hope it's somewhat good, since all the funding and work seems to got there either way.

Let me get this straight: CIG is in crunch for CitizenCon and the weekend before said CitizenCon, 4.0 goes to Evo? Seems like it's all so Chris can stand on that stage and proudly proclaim that 4.0(which we've been told is coming soon since 2017 or so)is playable and people will clap. It was 5 years ago in December of 2019 when Chris stood on a CitizenCon stage and said we were getting Pyro. Dude is shameless.

F skills! You can "lean into medical" by getting good. If you want to "lean into" something, how pathetic is it if you need the game to give you an artificial advantage? And if the gameplay isn't deep enough for player skill to matter, the game is poorly designed. Do you seriously think I want to run scrimmages with cargo boxes for hours on end to get slightly better at using heavy armor... until the next time I die? How is that fun?

The massive collection of t0 tech demos masquerading as a game, adds another t0 tech demo. Shocking.

NOTHING runs butter smooth...the engine is trash - only using 1 core

Yup, it doesn't run well right now.

People need to stop and actually be honest with themselves....this engine is never going to run butter smooth. Plain and simple. We are still dealing with basic gameplay issues 10+ years into development ...there's a reason literally almost no other companies use this garbage game engine....it's great for single player controller environments..not for online giant player found games. And now that I said that it's really not even great for single player games... To this day far cry and the crisis games have performance issues. And whatever you want to say about it being amazons engine....it's still based on cry engine.

@@JuanBrolo Yeah. Oh my goodness your comment is loaded. Firstly, the Star Engine isn’t being used by any other company because CIG hasn’t leased it to anyone yet. You know, because they are still developing it? And please. Before you say Crytek or lumberyard engine, know that Lumberyard engine was a placeholder while CIG replaced all that legacy code. There are dozens of posts on the RSI website by developers explaining this. And it’s mentioned in some past KZbin videos from CIG. Secondly, Star Citizen isn’t the game CIG cares about right now. It’s not and has NEVER been their primary focus of development. Squadron 42 and in case you missed the last 300 videos from CIG, the Star Engine have been their primary focus of development. Period. There are usually about 30 people or less actually working on Star Citizen. Has the project as a whole been delayed? Mismanaged? Miscommunicated? Misrepresented by KZbin content creators? All yes. And CIG has since, changed and moved forward. And will continue to. So too shall we.

@@jbirdmax I'm going to go ahead and assume you know nothing of what you speak about... Or you are just white knighting right now... "StarEngine" is a modded version of lumberyard which is a modded version of CRYENGINE. This is a known fact. Just because they slapped a new name on their version doesn't change that. Read the games insider article and you will see I am right in every way. And I said it all before the article came out. The engine is out dated regardless of what they change or make to force things to work. Calling lumberyard a placeholder for their StarEngine just means their modded version is called star engine and there are several games that have tried to use lumberyard and while are playable they are plagued with network issues and bugs. I am not discounting the work cig has done in any way I believe they have some of the most talented developers in the industry. But like 343 before their recent announcement of switching to unreal. They are being forced to make things work and it's a uphill battle at all times. They need to decide if they are going to be a tools and tech development company...or a game company and the length of development shows they are trying to do both and it's going to bite them in the butt in the long run.
