A SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket launched the USSF-44 mission for the US Space Force on Nov. 1, 2022. The rocket lifted off from Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Full Story: www.space.com/spacex-falcon-h...
Several minutes after launch, the side boosters touched down safely back at SpaceX's landing zones at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The core booster was not recovered to maximize fuel availability.

It still and always will just absolutely blow me away that I can watch a rocket go up to hundreds of miles in altitude then separate, immediately turn around do a second burn to stop lateral momentum and turn around to go back to the launch sight, then do another burn to slow down rentry and a landing burn thereafter all whilst not hitting one another, computer guided and land perfectly within just a few feet every single time without fail!!! It’s just mind blowing!!! I feel like a little kid watching every-time

And yet everyone here "on KZbin" is looking at digitally transmitted images/information on computers at home or in their hands...and thinking of this as something normal as well! Lol! I'm not disagreeing with you at all, just highlighting how much of what we take for granted every day would have been outlandishly amazing for anyone looking at it from a viewpoint of several decades in the past. Congratulations SpaceX! The coordination required to precisely and accurately guide 3 rockets simultaneously is astounding. A few years ago the rest of the industry was convinced that reusable rockets were impractical, and that vertical booster landings were impossible. You have made both feats routine events. Simply amazing.

@nickh5081 Жыл бұрын
Actually, vertical landings were successfully demonstrated decades ago, but other than that I agree!
@vmanrn2906
@vmanrn2906 Жыл бұрын
I agree this is awesome, but given that each "rocket" has its own guidance system, it is not much harder to control three than it is to control one. If the guidance works for one booster landing, it most likely also works for the other :) And its incorrect to say that people did not belive booster landings were possible. The reason it was not pursued by anyone else was a belief that it was not financially feasible. The great sucess of SpaceX is not to land the damn thing, no matter how spectacular it looks. The true success is to make F9 powerful enough that it can "waste" fuel on landings, and - not least - that spaceX has been able to fly the landed boosters again without a refurbishment that is nearly as expecsive as a new one. If NASA/Boeing had done this, they would probably have build something that could land, but it would then have been more expensive to refurbish a booster that has landed, than it would have been to just fly an expendable rocket and expend the rocket each time ... cough ... spaceshuttle ... cough

Did NASA use the same technology for Moon’s landing in 1969 or was it fake? If SpaceX is the first to create the rocket that can hover and land softly then NASA’s mission in 1969 was fake.

Reportedly, the U.S. Space Force was able to launch this mission at around 1/3 the cost of a fully expendable ULA Delta IV Heavy. Think about how many more opportunities for deep space projects or large-scale launches are going to be possible thanks to Falcon Heavy and other SpaceX projects still in development.

Launch cost is a pretty small part of deep space projects, but every bit helps. I'm waiting for the next stage in space exploration where the ISS (or something similar) become the base for an orbital assembly area where many launches can bring multiple parts, stages, fuel tanks, supplies etc. up and have it all assembled at their leisure while zipping around at 18k mph. The final product will already be in orbit and be moving at a decent clip before it even "launches" (whether it's a ship or a large scale deep space project).
