SpaceX Starship rocket breaks apart over Turks and Caicos

A SpaceX Starship rocket broke apart shortly after launch on a test flight from south Texas on Thursday, January 16, causing airplanes to be diverted away from any potential falling debris. Footage via Storyful from Cailen Rotz shows the rocket's breakup over Turks and Caicos.

This is it. This is the single best video of this event in existence. I have spent the last 2 days looking at dozens of videos of Starship IFT7's breakup and reentry on yt and x and this is the only video that shows both the explosion of the ship and follows entirely through to the point where the debris loses incandescence from reentry heating. AND I also approve of the copious use of unredacted expletives! 😄👍🏻

When I watched the live feed here in Florida I saw a flapping piece of metal that looked like the rivets came loose. Maybe that was the oxygen leak they are referring to. I instantly told my mom "That's not good. It's going to go down "Somewhere". "

This video is great because it shows the initial explosion of starship and then the subsequent reentry and burn up of its debris all in one shot, I am almost certain that starship's self destruct system caused it to explode after it lost its engine's, given the short time between the explosion and burn up, had it not exploded it would have still re-entered and possibly made it back to the surface in one piece which could have been bad.

I'm going by Musk's timeline. They are building on established technology. It's a matter of scaling it up. This is going to take a while. Blue Origin got to orbit. Sure, it lost its boosters, but orbit was the prize. Slow and steady wins the race. Move fast and break things can cause more delays due to moving too fast. Starship is not flying again anytime soon; yet time stretches on.

@itheuserfirst3186 I don't think Starship is going to face any massive delays, especially if the cause is pretty simple. Both SpaceX and Blue Origin require in orbit refuelings to get to the moon. New Glenn had a great first launch, but it will take them a while to get yo the frequencies that is needed for their plans. Starship already is at a good frequency and is only speeding up. It's very likely that Starship puts an operational payload in orbit before New Glenn.
