He returned the SCS GOLIATH. However, from what I've heard about it in fan theory, the intro where Roger Wilco was decommissioned and no recognition given for his true contribution was because StarCon was doing a coverup. They didn't want to admit that one of their star members was part of the illegal dumping scandal, a villainous blob, and they allowed a near galaxy spanning plague to almost happen, so Roger became the fall guy.

The outrageous charges at the beginning of the game combined with the mix-up between whether it was the Eureka or the Goliath that was "successfully returned" screams of an internal investigation by bureaucrats that was horribly rushed because they just wanted to bring Roger down, so they made some pretty gross mistakes. I think that's why I don't mind that plot inconsistency so much. :) It's also fairly well indicated in the game that Admiral Toolman is quite corrupt.

Huh. This game is actually better than I remembered. I think you explaining what went on behind the scenes combined with Danny's enthusiasm (as well as simply looking at the game for the first time in years) sold me on it more. I think I was let down way too hard by how they seemed to kick Roger back to square one for no reason when I first saw this game. Also, I liked Think Tank Girl too! :)

I really wanted to like this game when it came out, but in all honesty it wasn't up to scratch with the previous games. I chalk that down to (mostly) the turmoil it went through in development. That, and how it pretty much completely ignores everything that happened in SQ5.
@notsyzagts79672 жыл бұрын
For anyone who wants to know the game's plot, here it is: Using Starcon's aid in the "Golden Lightyears Retirement" project as a front, Sharpei wants to implant her big brain into Roger's body to remain young because she's very fearful of death. Knowing how forgettable Roger is, she can inhabit his body without him being missed. Since Stellar unexpectedly intervened, Sharpei tried to take over her body instead. That sets up the arc for the game's main plot: Stop Sharpei from taking over Stellar's body and her plans for immortality. The project implies that she wants to attain immortality by continuously inhabiting new bodies after each one gets old. Apparently, Roger was just the most easily acquired test subject in reach. What does she intend to do with her immortality? That is never answered but it most likely involved evil plans. That's the plot for Space Quest 6.

Concerning the narrator-problem: I think the player was supposed to identify as Roger in the earlier games, as in YOU are Roger Wilco, SPAAACE GUY, which is why you could name them in the first game. In 6 you merely direct him around, like a puppeteer. That’s why Roge is mouthier here.

That whistling, from what I know, is supposed to be this sci-fi EKG from Star Trek TOS. Of course, the only reason I know what it's meant to be is from playing Star Trek: Elite Force where part of the game has you sneaking onboard a station, part of which consists of a Mirror Universe Constitution-class and the same sound can be heard in the sickbay.

@MagusMarquillin7 жыл бұрын
Space Quest has always been a bit 4th wall breaking, so I think it can get away with a fluid narrator. I think Leisure Suit Larry started doing this to around this time also. Though, is Roger's hearing Gary an indicator he's gaining self awareness as a fictional character? Maybe that's why he's getting sassy? What bothers me more is how Fester eats his ear wax and throws away his snot pickings - _just revolting!_ I always do the opposite, about as frequently - salty freshness. His voice though is more or less how I thought, maybe less nasal but those southern affectations were there in the text.
@spacequesthistorian7 жыл бұрын
I don't really care much for the "main character argues with narrator" type of comedy, so that's why it kind of bugs me that this game does it. You're right, Space Quest does like to mess with the 4th wall a lot, but none of the other games had Roger actually conversing with the narrator. Also: You're right! Ear wax tastes terrible! Maybe with Fester's species, it's reversed.
