The whole "putting ice in freezer" thing is for one of my favorite deaths in the game. If you can find the guy outside right away it's not a big deal, but if you can't and it thaws, the droid comes out of Roger's pants and beats the crap out of him. That's why you get points, it prevents him thawing, at least for a little while.

But the Endodroid Runner is standing right outside the bar when you cube the Endodroid. Just standing there. You don't have to run around and find him anymore. I think it's the same death if you don't put the Endodroid's cubes in the ice cube tray.

As an adventurer, you might not know (at least playing the game for the first time) that the Endodroid Runner will be waiting for you directly outside the bar, and to some extent he blends in with his surroundings pretty well, so it's easy to miss him. I can understand the logic behind freezing him.

I like the balls that Roger has in this one, I guess after saving the galaxy against your will 3 times and intentionally once ending up with you getting drummed out of StarCon would kind of make you stop giving a fuck altogether.

Darmok and Jalad on the ocean. :D So, concerning Roger's dreams as a janitor as a kid, I always took it as he had high ambitions as a kid (as some kids do), but as he grew older, he realized that he was going no where in life, and that there was no point in excelling at anything, so he instead chose to just become a slacker instead. Also, apparently Elmo Pug is voiced by Doug Boyd, who plays Detective Carey in Police Quest 4. He's been in a lot of other video games too according to his IMDB profile. Concerning Elmo's age, if I recall correctly, he was a teenager in SQIII, and it's likely that several years have passed in between the two games, so he could have aged in between then. Or maybe he used an aging machine. :D Looking forward to more, as always!

Elmo Pug a teenager, eh? Well, that does make sense, actually. The close-up of him in the Dukem Nukem robot showed a number of, uh, acne problems. Also, it is impossible for me to read the words "Detective Carey" without hearing that "sexual harrassment" line from PQ4 in my head.

There's a couple of times Gary cracks up during the end of a line. One when you look at the cinema, and the second time when you look at the TV in the kidnappers' apartment.

I assumed that the Space Quest series take place in a future in which humans from Earth have (like in Star Trek) colonized other planets, among them Xenon. Thus, it would make sense that Christmas is a thing on Xenon. However, this doesn't explain how Roger could visit Sierra HQ (on what appears to be Earth, ca 1980s) in Space Quest III... Maybe it just looks the same in the future? And also, Ken Williams somehow exists in that future...? I don't know. Speaking of Space Quest III, I also got the impression that Elmo was a pre-teen/teenager in that game. A few years seem to pass in between SQ4 and 5, but not enough to have Elmo age into this sad shape. I don't enjoy the creative decisions this game has taken, but I do enjoy watching this series of yours, Historian! :)

I interpret that end of Space Quest III to confirm that the series takes place in present-day, but in a parallel universe. So secondary-world sci-fi. Kinda like Star Wars.

This game really does throw some weird pixel puzzles at the player, huh? I love the fighting game parodies. Like many, I was caught in the wave of Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and many more games of the era. You really couldn't go into an arcade without tripping over 10 of them the second you walked in one.

Just wanted to say, I always enjoy the phrase "And off he fucks" / "Off we fuck." Its not one you hear much in the States. (Unless you just so happen to be directing porn, I guess. Haha) Anyway, I've been tuning in every Tuesday since you've started this series. I was always more familar with the Lucasarts adventure games, with the exception of the LSL series, and its good to finally get to know the Space Quest series, even if second-hand. Thanks for these videos, keep it up.

The Mixed up Mother Teresa is a play on the old Sierra adventure... "Mixed Up Mother Goose". Also I don't think that's the line Gary's cracking up in... I can't remember it but Gary doesn't laugh, he's barely able to finish the line.

According to the Space Quest Wikia Timeline (spacequest.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline) SQ5 is in 3010 and SQ6 is in 3080... so I guess that's plenty of time for a teenager to grow up. The whole cryosleep thing reduces aging too. Do we count relativity? So many questions.

I didn't mean cryosleep in that specific instance :) There's a lot that's unexplained between 3010 and 3080. Maybe Roger is just much older and people age better. Maybe time dilation occured with all the space questing. Maybe he got into another cryopod and got shipped to the 86. Need more info :D
