When you go into orbit of klorox 2 you can hail StarCon and (a nervous looking) Quirk will tell you to investigate it yourself as he’s busy.
@SchuminWeb2 жыл бұрын
Ah, you missed the opportunity to hail the Goliath when you first go into orbit around Klorox II. You get a few points for it, because Quirk's response tells you that they were in the process of recovering a shuttle. That makes the Goliath's later distress transmission about the mutants make a little more sense, because it provides some context about who attacked the Goliath and why they got into the shuttle bay.

When it comes to Droole's putting the glass on his head, considering that he doesn't have a mouth in the same way that Roger and Flo have, I have always assumed that up top there is where Droole's mouth is, and that he was drinking his drink.

You are becoming my favourite KZbinr. Loving your work, you have a great voice such an awesome way of expressing yourself in your narrations. I would love to hear/see you in future Space Quest games. Your passion for these games is so huge and I love your humour. Please keep on making your videos, it seriously makes me smile to see another SQ nerd playing these games. Your voices are almost what I always thought some of the characters would have sounded like in the games. Thank you so much for all your work.

I was never too concerned about Rogers shirt in SQ5, but that is likely because I grew up watching Star Trek: The Next Generation, and in that series, it was the gold shirts that tended to get ganked, not the red shirts. I love that this scene is the only time you get to really see where drooles mouth is, since he drinks by putting the glass on top of his head. Come to think of it that would explain why the mouth piece for his headset is right in the middle of his dome. Also, I always heard WD-40 speaking with a sarcastic tone of voice in my head whenever she said Captain Wilco or Sir, like Cliffy made her obedient but she can still resent it.
@spacequesthistorian7 жыл бұрын
Having grown up with TNG, I didn't understand the "red shirt" joke back when I was a kid. I still haven't seen any of TOS, but it makes sense now. SQ5 actually seems to parody TOS more than it does TNG - Captain Quirk, having the Captain always go on away missions, Cliffy's scuffle in the Space Bar, etc. The TNG parodies are more visual (e.g. the LCARS-like control panels). Oh, and I thought Droole just put the glass on top of his head for a goof. :)

@spacequesthistorian5 жыл бұрын
My feelings about SQ5 being sort of a "not-really-a-Space-Quest-game" aside, this game does have a terrific story and actual characters to interact with -- so I think you're right, this would be the best candidate for a movie.

Is it me, or did WD-40 quote star trek a couple times (possibly spock specifically)? Like, my trek knowledge is pretty rusty, but her line about sending an away team and her line about how the colonists either can't answer or won't answer were both super familiar, and I've had zero exposure to this game before watching this playthrough.
@spacequesthistorian7 жыл бұрын
They may not be direct quotes, but they are definitely from the Star Trek vernacular. They're always going on about not answering hails and sending off away teams. (Also, IIRC, Star Trek TNG was really hitting its stride around the time this game was released.)
@Mr_Top_Hat_Jones Жыл бұрын
As others have mentioned, Harry Caray was quite a character. Will Ferrell portrayed him a few times on Saturday Night Live. Those skits are on YT. They’re definitely worth checking out. They’re some of Will Ferrell’s funniest SNL skits, and they’ll certainly give you some insight into Harry Caray.

Rogers movement in this game is both the smoothest it's ever been (with possible exception of SQ 6, Where Roger's got this kinda dopey goofball slouch that I really like). However his legs seem to move faster than the ground he's traversing like he's moonwalking forwards or something.

LOL Cliffy won't run because they didn't want to draw the running sprites! It's easier to display a talk bubble :P And Klorox II was scarier than a horror movie for me too when I was a kid.
@MagusMarquillin7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the effort dosen't make sense if he's not going to be running anywhere else, so they took that limitation and made one of the funnier jokes in the game, fitting with Cliffy's character. But I do wish more Adventure Game protagonists could have been built with a running toggle ala Quest for Glory. There's usually certain scenes where s/he should not seem so leisurely, and upping the speed slider doesn't really change that. It's only a little more common since 2.5D games came about.
@anastronautcartoon7 жыл бұрын
Agree. However, if Cliffy's running sprites were made, they could have used it in several places. Also Droole has only one "getting off the seat" animation with him running seriously.. so yeah they didn't want to invest more on unnecessary animations.
@MagusMarquillin7 жыл бұрын
I think Droole just gets stir crazy on the tiny Eureka - living at his station apparently - so any chance to get off ship he sprints at.
@spacequesthistorian7 жыл бұрын
I think it may also have been a space consideration issue. SQ5 only came on floppy disks, and it was already a big game, so they may not have had room for such "extraneous" animation that would only be used once or twice.
@anastronautcartoon7 жыл бұрын
Of course, that would be the main issue. Quest for disk space ;)

WD40's position as science officer is strangely prescient of Seven Of Nine on Star Trek Voyager - taking on a similar role and with an eerily similar characterization. SQ5 came out a full 4 years before she joined the cast of that show, though....
