The mayor said that immigration was not her job, but was the job of the government on the mainland. She is right. But, how would she respond if the main government told her that the island would house the immigrants, they would stay there, and the island would have to determine the best way of doing that and how much money the island would get to do this? That changes the responsibility from the people on the island who fled for their lives, to the government: both national and local. The government would become the object of people's anger more than the migrants. Thank you for this video and how it's done. I have a different impression after viewing this. I've always known that it's not the people's fault who were forced to leave their lives and family and friends and everything they knew and everything they owned and dreamed of in the land of their birth because of fear for their lives and their immediate family's lives. But seeing it in real life, without people trying to market a specific viewpoint, is very refreshing. Wouldn't it be great if we with privilege and easy lives could celebrate each other and the moment we're in, just like these folks did before getting on the bus? They were about to travel to most likely far worse conditions, but they celebrated each other and what they had instead of focusing on the sorrow they all felt. We could learn something here. Thanks again.

the government does not give a damn about these remote islands , that's why they should ask for secession (I know they are already doing it , but they have to make their voice heard louder)....the truth is the immigrants go to the canary islands for the simple reason that they are the closest to Africa , from there they hope the spanish government dispatches them to the spanish peninsula , from where they will continue their journey to other west european countries (France , Germany , The Netherlands , The UK , etc...) these are their real destinations ..,..

Every year, developed countries send money to the countries from which these men have fled. It's obvious the money received by their countries is not helping them. Perhaps the funds should be withheld and used to assist countries which are truly developing and are willing to accept these able-bodied men who want to work. The funds could be used to develop irrigation & farming, roads and housing, and these immigrant men could be employed. If there is no development and no acceptance of migrants, then there will be no more funds.

Why the British volunteer had to mention, the ghastly scent of the asylum seeker? It was unnecessary. Naturally, if one is traveling on foot, through valleys, and climbing mountains, they are going to be smelly, if water and soap aren’t accessible. I don’t know about anyone else, but if I were in a third world country, and had the desire to leave, I would rather suffer there, than go through such inhuman conditions. Easier said than done I suppose….. My heart goes out to refugees worldwide. May God grant them favors. Sad state of affairs, really!!!!!!!.
