He's an inspiration to many of us - Gary always professes his faith in Jesus Christ in all of his performances. - Gary for so many years lived through his diabetes - - - that's the meaning of "Pure Energy" - because he sings, dances, etc... and with diabetes - without that "pure energy" he won't be able to do things - - - thanks for your reactions, sir! you're the best bro!

May I complement you on your excellent reaction to Gary V's masterpiece, Spain. I have watched many vocal coaches react to this performance and you are the only one to notice the addition of reverb and many other small nuances of the performance. As a jazz trumpet player, I love the solo scat part, which is incredible. Gary's version of Spain is him paying homage to the original by the late, great Al Jerreau who performed it and wrote the lyrics to the Chick Corea jazz standard. He was one of the three judges of KZ Tangdigang with Pelita Corrales, Charice and Martin Nievera. He announced to the audience that a star is born ... KZ Tangdigang. He's in his late 50's at the time this video was taken. When he was younger, he was the "Michal Jackson" of the Philippines because of his dancing.

This is originally the Al Jarreau version. Chick Corea made this piece but without lyrics. Al Jarreau put lyrics to this song. Gary covered this song with an extended solo scat.

This is not his best performance - like he’s already in his mid 50s!! You should have heard him at his peak, he used to sing this song a lot in his concerts. He’s one of the hidden gems of the Philippines and we’ve been enjoying his awesome music for decades. Thanks for the vid, great reaction as always.

Gary V has cited Jarreau as a major musical influence a number of times. "Spain" is originally by Chick Corea in 1971. Then Al Jarreau did a version with lyrics in 1980. =).

Gary is a great singer, a movie artist, a good dancer, an X Factor music judge, a band leader, an.energetic BIKER in his GARY VALENCIANO You Tube Channel which I also follow.. .. He once lived in USA. But that's not all.... a good singer for Lord Jesus songs... Etc... A very talented person.

The first time this song was sung with lyrics and scatting was by Al Jarreau, in the 70's I think. You should check it out. Some jazz folks think it's better than Gary's. But they are both excellent. Gary's performance here just incredibly good.

Back then, every aspiring singer wanted to be a Gary V., he is an icon in the Philippines for a male just as Regine Velasquez was an icon for female singers and now, we have great products in Morissette, Katrina, Budakhel, etc.. He is a good dancer and moves like Michael Jackson, he plays the Keyboard & drums and is also a composer. He is techy as well. He has his own studio and can record, mix, edit & render by himself. But, for his albums, he goes to a recording studio as he is a contract star of recording labels, Vicor Records, Universal Records, Star records & Toshiba EMI. HE has 3 LIVE albums, 12 soundtrack albums, 26 studio albums, and 7 compilation albums. In 2017, after his 35th Anniversary performance on the weekly show ASAP (ABS-CBN) he had a hard time breathing. He underwent open-heart surgery as 95% of his main artery was blocked. His heart was harvested, made to stop, revived, and placed back in after clearing the main artery. The doctors were not optimistic about his recovery as he was diabetic but he healed well. But, after a little sooner he had back pains, and doctors found out in an image scan he had kidney cancer. It was a 6 cm cyst that was malignant. He was lucky as it was attached to his kidney and operable, confined and there was no metastasis, and so it was removed and he did not need chemotherapy. He is a devout Christian and attributes his recovery to God. He is now recovering well with a good heart, cancer-free, and ready to do more shows.

The lyrics of "Spain" are from the legendary Al Jarreau, although the music is from Chick Corea. Have you heard Al Jarreau? KZbin only has an audio version of his "Spain," but there's a rare video of him performing "Take 5" live in 1976. It's mind-melting! The "talking" intro isn't regular talking, it's actually part of the song, so listen from the beginning. I hope you review it!
