One of the reasons theyre super common in movies from around the 1980s is because they look like a 1911, but can run 9mm blanks which are in much greater supply in the film industry than .45 ACP blanks. if youve ever seen the untouchables, all of the 1911s are Stars. drove me wild constantly seeing the external extractor lol

Dean, thank you, thank you, thank you for this video. I managed to correct a mistake I made in the 90s when I failed to snag one of these by finding one at a LGS recently for the same as what you paid for yours. My heartbreak came when all the magazines available for it were the dodgy Triple Ks. And then there you were in my suggested videos telling us that these accept S&W 5900-series magazines. At just over $20 a pop, they are a song compared to the $50 Triple Ks that many hate with a passion. Bonus points for calling out those that needed calling out. 😂😂😂😉 Thank you again, brother.

Nice review! I really like the 30M. So much so, that I now own three of them, as well as two Star BM's. Great guns. You enlightened me as to two things. One, that little button at the bottom on the rear strap, for removing the hammer assembly for cleaning. And two, that I can use a S&W 59 magazine as a replacement (much less expensive, and more ubiquitous). Thanks for that. Again, nice review!

The slide may not lock back on an empty 59xx magazine. Some of mine lock back, some don't. But they all feed just fine.

This was my first pistol I got when I turned 18 a few years back, got it for 280 bucks after messaging the guy about a S&W 6904 he had listed but had already sold. He offered up the Star and I had no idea what it was but I snagged it bc I wanted a pistol real bad. Doing research, I have one that I believe is military marked and also has the " Starfire " roll mark ( which isnt very common at all btw so nice ). It's my current carry gun, only problem is finding mags. Promag makes 10 rounders and Numrich sells aftermarket mags for the Model 28 which are so so. I'm gonna get around to getting Smith mags eventually ( and hopefully a Smith lol )

A great description of the magnificent Star M30. I thought I knew just about everything about them but didn't know (or forgot) that they can use the S&W Model 59 magazines! That's great news since original Spanish mags are nearly non-existent.

If more people knew about that, these pistols would be far more popular. But as is, they're barely known about.

@@Deanosaurous I've found just about any part ever needed for the Star 30M on Ebay. The complete hammer/sear system, slide assemblies, and grips. I keep a small supply of parts like you do but have never needed any of them. I've often wondered what happened to the frames. Destroyed no doubt.

And what about the bushing at the tip of the slide, which I think could break or come off. I've seen one like that. Is it a fault? Is it the Achilles heel of this gun?
@Deanosaurous7 ай бұрын
The bushing is pressed into place, much like a Smith and Wesson 5906. As long as it's properly sized there's not a concern. If one falls out, it was due to improper tolerances during machining and not a fault of the design.

No problem! I've tested about 10 S&W magazines in them. Some will lock the slide back, some wont. But there's also people who have swapped the follower for a CZ75 follower and it allows the slide to lock back as well. Just food for thought.

Good Day - I have a question. These S&W model 59 magazines don't have a notch on the left upper side like the original Star magazine. That nutch apparently activates the trigger function. Otherwise, without the magazine in the pistol, the trigger wouldn't work. So, did you have your trigger disconnect removed or does it just work without that notch on the S&W mag? Thanks for your assistance in advance! 😊 P.S. Just trying to figure out if I should get S&W mags for mine or I would need to remove that disconnect. 😊
@Deanosaurous3 ай бұрын
@@Spanish_Archer I removed the magazine disconnect on my Star. It's a very easy thing to remove, and since I've used it in competition it allows me to drop the hammer without a magazine when showing clear to the RO.

Thank you for your reply! Could you possibly advise on the process of removing that magazine disconnect? Is it done by removing the fire control group? Thank you sir!

@@Spanish_Archer Last time I did it, I believe you just drift the trigger pin a little bit to the left (don't have to remove it completely) and the disconnect bar should fall right out.
