Fabian Ruiz put in one of the best performances I've ever seen from a midfielder in a final, and he should've won Player of the Tournament. I was worried when Rodri came off, but Fabian absolutely held it down in middle all game, and didn't put a foot wrong. Zubimendi came on and was pretty tidy, although England made it really easy for Spain's midfield. Olmo missed a good chance but he sure made up for it with that goal line clearance. Yamal was mid in the final but came up big for the first goal, and Williams was definitely Spain's biggest threat all night. I'm just surprised Lyes didn't mention Ruiz, he was sensational.

Thank you for the commentary. One can support his/her team, praise them, and still base their commentary on the facts of the matter, like you did. I was getting tired of English fans who apparently watch a completely different game than I did, in which England was in fact dominating Spain having them were they wanted, and then two unlucky goals gave Spain the victory in the last 5 minutes. Talk about lucky goals, the only reason why Palmer's shot got in is because the deflection on Zubimendi's heel, once Unai Simon had already jumped, pushing the ball ever so slightly away from him. Great shot, great goal, but extremely lucky one. Meanwhile, the Spanish ones were plays directly exploiting the wholes in the English defence. There was no deflection, no unlucky trip due to grass, etc. At the end of the game, we were closer to 3-1 than 2-2. Football is interesting because anyone can win against anyone on a special day, but some people somehow really thought that after the equalizer England had Spain against the ropes (not after getting ahead, just after drawing!).

I’m gonna be honest my issue with england was their team selection. They should have looked at ucl winner era liverpool. Like that liverpool team Their entire midfield is full of workers. Jude is a worker, Rice is a worker, Mainoo is a worker. Any of those guys can cover trent when he does his thing. You could even do that thing where you play stones as a cdm alongside rice and have him cover TAA. foden should only be playing centrally bc he offers no threat from the left. Kane should be fired into the sun and be brought in alongside pacy wingers if you want to play him. International football is not about tactics, its about what profile of players you bring on and if you can identify which players work best with each player. For example kane and foden should never be in the same team. Kane started dropping keep bc spurs didn’t have an eriksen anymore. He worked for england doing that bc he had sterling and rashford. England don’t have that profile of winger anymore so they don’t need a striker that can link play

How do I know that I like Carvajal and Cucurella? Because when I see him in them in the pitch, I feel safer. It is like when we used to have Pujol or Ramos. There are players that you know are going to do anything and everything to defend that gate, no matter whether it is the first of the ninety first minute. Cucurella is the one creating more chances, but Carvajal is the guy who knows that sometimes you have to bring the fast player down with a tactical foul, even if that means a red card. Both are very different, but both have been great.

Cole Palmer is that guy! He's in actual football flow state right now, unfortunately Southgate prefers Foden. It's not just Southgate, the whole media and youtubers too have been glazing Foden even when he has been underwhelming for England. First it was oh he's being played in the wrong position, then it was oh Southgate is at fault for Foden not doing anything even as a 10. I'm not a stats guy, but with Foden the stats are damning. He's played 7 Euro games, and has Zero assist or goals. The writing was on the wall. You know why? In the 7 Qualifier games for this Euros that Foden played, he also had ZERO assists or goals. That's 14 official games played and hasn't had a single goal contribution. Palmer should have been starting from the knockout stages at least. As for Spain, well deserved. Love that the two youngsters paired up for the first goal. However the Player of the Tournament was a PR robbery. Rodri is amazing no doubt, but it should have been either Yamal (Ik he got young player award) or Olmo. Dani Olmo for me is one of the main reasons why Spain won this tournament. In fact I can't recall the last time Spain had someone so incisive in attack. Not even Iniesta, Xavi or Fabregas were as electric in the final third as Olmo (don't come at me, I chose my words very carefully there).
