people have historically built near water sources because its a basic requirement for life and its easier to live if its close by. Its less of a constraint now with modern technology to move the water and purify it, but most towns have existed since before these modern day amenities.

What i found interesting about the US election was that so many Latinos, blacks and Arabs voted for Trump. This is a great healing opportunity for America: people are at last voting on the merits of the candidates and not on racial grounds. Although I tend to agree with your underlying idea, it is fair to say that the Valencia floods is not without precedent. In 1957, there was one as powerful and deadly as this recent one. But clearly if you are being financed by a central power and you burn your resources in idelogical garbage rather than investing in the infrastructure necessary to minimize the damage of nature, then you are responsible. The DANA uncovered how divorced from the needs of the common garbage and deplorables, the actual Spanish government is. At the same time, it gives some insight in understanding the kind of epical landslide that Trump and Co. just handled in the USA. This was not a Republican party win. It was beyond traditional affiliations. Hope Europeans and Spaniards will get the lessons. I personally believe that the US government will stand with Spain as a geopolitical friend as long as the Spaniards realize how desperate is their need to change asap their political course.
