Tyler & our daughters were the same!! They were forced to take Spanish in school & did awful. I always told them “Your last name is Garza!! How do you not speak Spanish!” They fought me all the way. Now that they’re adults, they say “Why didn’t you Make us learn Spanish !!!!” 🤣🤣

Just finished the video (interrupted by a new dishwasher being put in) and I really liked it. Tyler seems like an intelligent guy and a good speaker. I liked the fact that he really wanted to learn Spanish and be with Spanish speakers. As a retired EFL teacher I felt a connection with him and wouldn't mind meeting him if I go back to Plasencia again. I've been there maybe ten times through the years and I liked the town and especially the surrounding area. The wide-open spaces of Estremadura remind me so much of my years in central Brazil, as it must remind Tyler of regions of Texas.

You were great. I’m an Auxiliar 1st year in Alcossebre (Valencian community). Love it! My principal and tutor teacher are fierce advocates for me! They totally took control and in a month had housing, banking, padrón, and residency set up and physically accompanied me at every appointment! Very small community right on the sea. I’ve only got 1 more year before I age out (60). Love it, hike/walk daily and am almost at my weight when I was in my 20’s. Thinking of staying after, on non lucrative visa. Lucky to have options.

Thanks Stuart and Tyler, Extremadura and Plasencia are little known Gems of Spain; the Parador De Plasencia ,government owned Hotel is a converted 14th century Convent and stunning; well worth the reasonable price to stay in a beautiful bit of Spanish history ! As mentioned by a fellow watcher, Extremadura is famous for it's 16th century Conquistadors such as Pisaro who came from Trujillo near Caceres; BUT it is also less famous for having bred the MERINO Sheep in the 14th century, since exported to the rest of the world !! It was the Merino that FIRST made Extremadura rich, shown by the fact that many of the palaces, churches, convents, cathedrals etc in Extremadura were built in the 14th and 15th century , rather than later in the 16th century with stolen American money !!! Wool is way better than looting another continent, so it helps me feel less collective guilt when wondering at the glorious architecture there ! Plasencia was SO rich, it has TWO Cathedrals, though as Tyler pointed out ,it only takes maximum 30 minutes to walk right across Plasencia, old and new town; no chance of getting lost ! J

Stu, I would recommend Tyler to visit Xativa, in the Valencia Province when he decides to move his adventure somewhere else in the country. My wife and I had the opportunity to live there for two months and the experience was absolutely fantastic. A medium to small city with all of the amenities to include a train station connecting Xativa with Valencia and many other locations. Don’t want to forget to mention the people, very friendly and humble community.

Great content Stuart, What an interesting man Tyler is. A really good way of learning any language is to Immerse yourself in it the language, the culture and many tourist places don’t exactly offer that.( well not totally) Immersive experience is a great thing to do and good for him. Great video as always

Hi Stuart great content as always . Was speaking to my German neighbor this morning down here on the Costa de luz . He was telling me about the German visitors that have driven down to see relatives over the holidays . Four out of the six that made it down driving through Austria , Italy , France , and Spain had no vaccinations or negative tests , nor were there any stops on their journey to check . With this lack of control are we ever going to see the end of this crisis ?

Thanks for having Tyler on, looking at is from the perspective of a parent of a 20 year old who is interested in living in Spain. Will pass on the name of the program. It’s not in their Uni. major & it just confirms need to keep the student loans low so you can have this flexible lifestyle. Good to know you can suggest a placement - we would go with Avila which is slightly larger than Plasencia.

"You don't get many people living in remote places like Plasencia". Tyler is like me since I live in one of the last places an expat would move to--Chaves, in the north of Portugal. If fact I am the only American (not Portuguese-American) in the town, at least that I know of. The only other Americans I have met are the odd Mormon missionaries who come through and an Evangelical pastor who tried to convert the local population without much luck. When I lived in Mexico I also lived in a non-descript town called Ixlán del Rio, in the state of Nayarit, and later in Pochutla, in the state of Oaxaca. I never met any Americans in any of those places. I did learn a fairly fluent Spanish though, although now, with Portuguese, it is quite rusty.

I’ve been to Chaves a few times on my bike. It’s one of my favourite Portuguese towns. There’s a great hotel in the grounds of a castle that my wife and I really love, plus nice running along the river and that fabulous Roman bridge.
@rayvogensen29833 жыл бұрын
@@geofftoscano6804 You must live fairly close to be able to come more than once on your bike. Anyway, now we have another tourist attraction, the Roman baths with the hottest water on the Iberian peninsula. You can't have a bath there because it is now a museum but you can visit and read about how these baths were abandoned during the "Dark Ages" and completely forgotten, only to be discovered when excavation took place for the building of an underground car park. They, and the baths of Bath, England, are the largest in Europe.
@geofftoscano68043 жыл бұрын
@@rayvogensen2983 Sorry, should have made it clear that bike is motorcycle! 😂. I live in the north east of England. I haven’t been to the baths you mention but my wife seems to know where they are (at the other end of the park, near the toilets was her description), but I recall their existence. Will definitely visit next time I’m there, thanks for mentioning.

Quite the opposite ,if healthy people keep getting tested using a PCR test that was never meant to diagnose infectious disease therefore giving false positives and adding to the so called cases then there will never be an end to this crisis .

That's right Ray, 550 is a bit steep for a two bedroom in Plasencia. I paid just 180 last year for a room, but decided to splurge on a historical property this time around. Thanks for watching.
@rayvogensen29833 жыл бұрын
@@Tyler_Teacher Thanks for the answer. I admit I haven't seen the place and it might even be quite fancy. I mentioned the rent because I have three grand-daughters studying university and living away from our town. Since I am the one paying for most of the three rents I really keep track of the costs. 180 for a room would be about the cost here in Portugal, in a small city, but not in Lisbon and probably Porto. If you haven't been there yet, I recommend a trip to the village of Calisteo with a walk around the walls and also a visit to the abandoned village of Grenadilla, on the banks of the Embalse de Gabriel y Galán. There are also Roman ruins at Caparra. You are lucky because there is so much to see around Plasencia. But, as you mentioned, you do need a car as buses, if there are any, are few and far between.

Just a thought Stuart. When you interview people have you ever thought about changing your position to the right hand side on the split screen? While you're on the left you are always looking away from the interviewee.

Nice interview , interesting content . But although Tyler said he wanted to immerse himself with local Spanish people and move out of his comfort zone , he then said that as it was too difficult language-wise sharing with a Spanish person , he now shares with an English speaking Canadian girl . So back into his comfort zone. ?

Does anybody recommend any coastal cities in the north that are good for the immersion style learning? Me and my partner plan to spend (aug-october 22) travelling across the north of spain. Would be a good opportunity for me as my once/twice a week studies in Sydney, Aus is so restricting.

It would seem that they already speak Spanish in Texas.. Texas currently does not have an official language; though historically at various points in time there have been laws giving both official status and recognition to English, Spanish, German and Norwegian . In 1834 with Degree No. 270 of Coahuila y Tejas gave both English and Spanish official status in Texas....cuenca ..And for the record few people speak Spanish in England so that was my excuse to come to Spain...
