Spain isn't the only country building housing in such zones. As an American, I am very familiar with this problem. There are many homes that have been built in what we call "flood plains". These are areas that are prone to flooding, especially when rivers overflow their banks or due to heavy rains in a particular area. These areas have become built-up without consideration of the topography or without adequate drainage installed to prevent flooding. One only has to look at the news stories about Florida, Georgia and North Carolina in the recent hurricane season to see the sad result of such construction.

Used to be you could live reasonably well on €2500 / month even in larger cities in Spain. Not sure that's still the case. Certainly not if you're doing "touristy" things and not just living frugally like a local. We just got back from 6 weeks in Spain and although we only had to pay for lodgings for half that time since we have lots of family and friends that put us up in Madrid and Asturias, we also used public transport like the excellent ALSA bus service along Northern Spain, but still had to fly into Barcelona, Tenerife and back to Madrid. All said and done we totally blew our (we thought) generous holiday budget.

Hi Stu. I envy that you can make your wonderful videos for all of us to enjoy. I don't know how you can survive money wise considering the high cost of living. Many Spaniards struggle to pay their groceries but you seem to be doing ok. And you have a lot of spare time to concentrate on your channel. Many Spaniards work 12 hr days(not including travel). Good stuff!

Economy can be increasing, I wouldn't be surprised if it does, but is that increase being beneficial for most of the population? I bet landlords and government employees are indeed having a great time now, but for the rest of the population, specially autonomos, things are far from that...

When we went through India in 1998 outside Delhi pollution was awful. Black and rubbish 500mtrs tall. Tuk tuk pouring out pollution same in Pakistan xx
