Often referred to as “Europe’s #1 Rock Show,” Countdown was on-the-air for 16 years (1977-1993), and was broadcast in 18 countries, making it one of the most successful music shows in the history of television.
The archive contains over 3,000 hours of musical performances, interviews and concert appearances by the greatest rock, R&B, pop, new wave and rap/hip-hop artists of the era, including: Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Prince, U2, Michael Jackson, The Police, David Bowie, Beastie Boys, George Harrison, Billy Joel, Whitney Houston, Run-DMC, Depeche Mode, Culture Club, Duran Duran, Blondie, The Cure, R.E.M., and thousands more.

The 80s were the greatest as far as music goes and I mean all types of music/artists/bands hands down were very talented rock, pop, rap, etc you name it you name it all music industry in the 80s best ever god I wish I could go back. Nowadays it seems like the I phones, game consoles, etc. just burning our kids brains and can not make great music.

The song that revived Spandau Ballet's fortunes, and all because Gary Kemp was head over heels in love with Clare Grogan of Altered Images. She, alas, was not in love with him, although she was friendly enough to him. The song was a declaration of his love for her, but heavily coded. "I was infatuated with Clare Grogan," he told The Guardian. "I met her on Top of the Pops and at one point travelled up to Scotland to have tea with her and her mum and dad. Although my feelings were unrequited and the relationship was platonic, it was enough to trigger a song." But then, who wasn't in love with Clare?

Martin has forgotten to plug his guitar in. I remember how disappointed I was when I found out that those chart shows would only do mimed performances because they didn't have the facilities to have the bands to play live for real. But having said that, it's still cool to see this footage.

Tears for Fears Roland and Curt used to smirk and goof off a little, especially Roland, when they had to lipsynch since like most of the 80s bands could perform live quite well (and many of the bands decades earlier...and some bands decades later). Roland explained how sometimes he could not hide his amusement . Yep, TFF was/is my no.1 80s band then, followed by Spandau Ballet.
