But then again that was most 1980s and 90s music. Unlike today, which is saved by samples, this was the last decade of 95% originality

Spandau were a top 80s band from North London this was their only uk number one but it stayed there for four weeks in 1983. and even one week at no 1 in the states. It was wonderful to see you, a lady from Nigeria, reacting to this song all these years later

Yes, it is amazing! I think many generations went from not getting it and just finding it being a regular alright 80's hit, to see the amazingness and geniousity with it when aging into 40+. That happened to me. You look like you get it immediately! I wish I had.

A quintessential 80's tune, no auto tune, just what looks like brand new instruments, all are impeccably dressed, look at those suits, especially the lead singers suit is awesome IMO, and would still in 2023 look as striking as it did in 1983. These guys radiated class as well as not using any auto tune or other artificial musical enhancement, just pure talent. I miss music like this from the 80's, the change from the 70's was so drastic that it actually show's that when you listen closely how good and different the melody and flow in music like "True" is. It makes me remember the feelings I had when I first heard this back in 1983, it also shows, to me at least, that any really great songs will never lose its luster and how this, even 40 years later, still is as soul stirring and powerful when compared to the absolutely horrible garbage 90% of today's music is.

I remember being 17 years old and dancing with a girl who I never saw again after high school finished later that year. In a gym, fellow classmates awkwardly dancing together and feeling my palms getting sweaty. I was dancing with a girl. Those first experiences as a young man. It was a great time in my life 1983/84. This is certainly one for the ladies. Back in the day when i was a 20 year old i used to get so jealous how my girlfriend (later my wife) used to swoon all over Spandau Ballet and i hated this song with a passion. But some 39 year years later, i now recognise this song to be an all time classic here in the UK. Though not sure about the States and further a field, maybe not so.

It's a classic here, too, Glassman. A standard, even...maybe the only true (haha, get it) standard the second British Invasion produced. Gary Kemp won the BMI's Million-Air award in 2019 when it reached 4,000,000 airplays here in the States. (which is equivalent to about 38 years of continuous airplay.)

I'm not sure where you put this song. It is emotional, heart warming, lost love, comeback for love, finding love, heart break. No matter this song is perfect example of how music can touch you at a deep level. His voice, chords, notes, different instruments.
