I have to say , even thought the great 80’s had rap, Rock, Funk, New Wave, Dance, Smooth Jazz, cool Country , Reggae, and more , now that I’m older 30 years later, it’s the ballads that I feel nostalgic about the most , and are my favorites from the decade. And this is definitely one of them!

That's what always say, every decades has fantastic songs BUT 80s was on another level, the varieties, many super stars of 60s, 70s became legends e g rolling stone, Aretha Franklin, some stars became super stars such as Tina Turner, Elton John, and many stars were born such as Whitney Houston, George Micheal no matter your taste there was something for you; life was even much more simpler. Best decade of music!
@janstan8407
@janstan8407 4 жыл бұрын
@@elizabethtimothy4776 I've watched A LOT of these reaction videos, and I CONSTANTLY see young and middle age people(who weren't into that kind of music), drop their jaws to the floor, or literally cry(for real) with emotion because they did not know this level of quality of music existed. Today's music serves ONE purpose. To make money, and to promote sex celebrity culture instead of musical quality. Sad, sad, sad. Now, it's more important how "HOT" they are, or how "HOT" their video is.

@John Wickes I went to his concert a couple of month ago and I had low expectations for all the reasons you named. And I was blown away. His singing was wonderful and he has got what a lot of people need: Charisma and the ability to communicate with the audience. I was three meters away from him. I was so happy this was the least cringeworthy concert and that I did not have to compensate with booze. Of course people change, but Tony hasn't lost it and still makes people happy

I suspect the unsuspecting might look back at Spandau's earlier singles with slight alarm, given that they were almost a synth-pop group at the outset. Labelled under 'New Romantics', they're saved by songwriting and the undeniable strength of Tony Hadley's vocals. This was a UK chart-topper when I was 10 - and I don't know whether to celebrate change or denounce it.

This song caused me so many memories of late night dates in the back seat parking at a quiet place with someone kissing, touching, squeezing, fondling, cuddling, und experiencing... .........things...giggles When this first played the radio no one knew who they were, but it became one of the most loved "love ballets" of the 80s. It was a perfect song to get lost in your emotions kissing, making out in the backseat, with someone ya liked while parking on a dark country road some place Saturday night. :-) Such a joy to see someone who experienced "mostly" different genre of music, but has heard this song und liked it, but never really listened to das lyrics of what das song was truly about. Makes me smile as well. :-) All Rock music tells a story you may have interest...silly girl. Auf Wiedersehen :-)

It's Spandau Bal-LAY, like Ballet dancing. The term Spandau Ballet was coined during World War1. Spandau was a German machine gun manufacturer, and their guns were mounted on German fighter planes. The Allied pilots used the term Spandau Ballet to describe dogfighting against the Germans

"Listening to Marvin all night long". During the New Romantic period (Spandau Ballet came through as a part of the New Romantic movement) young Brits beyond the north were discovering soul music in a big way. And of course Marvin Gaye, one of the great American soul artists had to come to London ten years earlier to be fully appreciated by the industry. The Spandau's were clearly heavily influenced by Marvin 's work. Listen to this again and then listen to Marvin Gaye's seminal masterpiece 'I Want You' (which was recorded in London). The 'nod' to Marvin in the lyric is so well deserved!

Tony Hadley (and a lot of 80s front men like Peter Cox, Simon Le Bon etc) are classic examples of "shut the fuck up and sing the notes". There's more emotional resonance here than all that vocal gymnastics and scale runs you see on the talent survival shows.
