Hi, as a papiamento speaker from Aruba, I want to say thank you for the video about our language. It is indeed 80% portuguese/spanish based, more portuguese. And started as a lingua franca from the region you mentioned. In cabo verde they also speak this creole based language. Ours has more dutch and english influences. Palenquero has that ppmento flow, but i couldn’t understand what the guy said, the cooking video was more understandable indeed. I could understand at a 6

@juan Vm papiamento tiene origens de português, los esclavos que vieran de Africa hablaban un criolo de portugues. Importante saber tambien que el portugues del siglo 15/16 era muy similar al español.

@@juanvm5992 well, in European Portuguese the final 'e' us almost dropped, so in a creole language (sometimes) this is completely dropped, like the word "saudade" in Portuguese torn into "sodad" in Capeverdian Creole, and the word "fiesta" came from Spanish, it's a Spanish influence.p

Its correct to say that Papiamento is a Portuguese based Creole with Spanish influence. Papiamento came from Capeverdian Creole, a Portuguese based Creole, and Papiamento means something like talking in old Portuguese.

Great video, European Portuguese native here. To me, the Palanquero sounds a lot to Costeño mixed with a lot of African sounds and words. As for the Papiamento, I thought it was Cape Verdian creole in the first seconds. The sounds and cadence are typically European Portuguese.

In the Filipino national language of the Philippines, "palengke" which came from the place "Palenque" in Mexico, became a Filipino word that means "market". On the other hand, another Filipino word "palengkero" or "palengkera", which were derived from "palengke" (market), means "market person", "market goer", or a "person who goes to the market", but it later on became a pejorative word that connotes a person who is ill-mannered, tactless, loud, crude, loudmouth, crude, boorish, or uncouth, and who always looks for a fight and who likes to engage or start a quarrel. This pejorative meaning came from the idea that market goers or a market person commonly have those qualities and characteristics that I mentioned above. In the other languages of the Philippines that I knew and also in the Filipino national language too, the other terms or words for a "market" are: merkado, mercado, tiyangge, or tiangue.

The initial base of Papiamentu was Portuguese. As lingua franca in the slave trade from Costa of Guinea and adjacent areas. Bon dia in Portuguese is Bom dia in Spanish is Buenos dias, if you listen the criolo of Cabo Verde (Portuguese based) you will see how close it is to Papiamentu in many ways. Dushi comes from doce (sweet) as far as I know in Spanish it is dulce. Later on papiamentu start to include Spanish, Dutch, English and other languages. The African people that came to those islands already spoke a Portuguese criolo. That's the reason Portuguese is the start, unfortunately as the slave trade was a very dark period of the European colonialism.

Your video started out all fallacious and wrong in everything, Papiamento is a Caribbean language derived from Portuguese and Cape Verdean Creole. Stop with fake news and lies, it's not because Papiamento uses Spanish terms that come from Spanish, it doesn't come and never came and there is no such affiliation. Papiamento is Caribbean Portuguese. The Palenquero is a Spanish Creole and the chavacano. Papiamento is from the subfamily of Portuguese languages, simple as that.
