I really think it's better to learn Spanish from someone who has also learned it as a second language. They relate better to what it's like trying to learn it.

I feel that it's better to learn from someone like Paul when it comes to grammar because he knows our struggles. But when it comes to listening, it's better to listen to natives because Paul might have an accent that we will pick up on.

Most people don’t want or need to learn Spanish to the level whereby you may pass as a native one day, so have to agree that a second language is best from someone who has had to learn it too….

Thank you so much - you have taught me more Spanish in 3 weeks of watching your videos than I have learned in the past five years and that includes a year in Mexico with formal lessons, where I felt like I was just drowning in mud - nothing gave me the ability to string my fairly big vocabulary of random words into sentences so all I could do was speak broken Spanish and I struggled to understand what anyone said to me. And the subjunctive was like a terrifying mystery! Your videos are like light bulbs going on in my head and I can’t express how much I deeply appreciate what you do on this channel. Eres un maestro nato y dotado.

I like that phrase, Paul. En cuanto a lo que pasó anoche en la cama... ... deja de robarme la colcha! Me desperté con frío. 😋 I love the pleasantly surprised look on people's faces when we use these lesser used phrases. And then they don't hold back trying to simplify the conversation. When I was first learning vocabulary, I'd walk around the house and everything my eyes landed on I'd say in my mind the word in Spanish and hit the English-Spanish dictionary if necessary. Turned out to be a great start for learning nouns.

This was a good lesson. Thank you for sharing with us what can work because I realized there were a lot of phrases that are totally different in meaning than the word e.g. "tener ganas de" and it can get confusing if you don't know how it's used in its context. Anyway. I really enjoyed this explanation. My question is though, don't you think it's necessary to know the other meanings, in case someone else uses them? I mean it might be useful to us to learn the main word, but we also want to understand when others speak- and since there is more than one way to say the same thing we want to be able to understand right?
@QrooSpanish2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is good to know them but you can often determine their meaning through context without having to sit down and study them. I have seen so many students spend countless hours studying studying different ways to say the same thing. Apart from the opportunity costs of doing that, another side effect is that many would pause more often than necessary in conversations because it was like they were trying to mentally choose between lots of options. I guess it just comes down to the student and what works best for them. Have a wonderful 2022 Kay. :)
