Great video guys. I'm very happy about the support that you two gentlemen are getting from your subscribers, it is well deserved. However, in this video, you seemed a bit excited, but also exasperated from the sheer volume of inquiries you get about content. Don't worry about it, just do what you do best and it will all sort itself out. Your channel has a wonderful chemistry about it, and you and Chris are the main ingredients in that recipe, Don't let people overwhelm you into changing anything, or worse, rushing things just to accommodate them. Please make sure to take care of yourselves, and the channel will take care of itself.

One quick tip on the EGR - check if the physical mechanism is still in place or if it has been blanked off. It’s common to just disable them electronically as part of an aftermarket remap. If this is the case you won’t get a EML from flashing back to stock, it’ll just start functioning again. 💡if it has been “blanked off” you should be able to see this and you will need to fit a replacement to get it back to standard.
@craigelmer85662 жыл бұрын
Car had been remapped for 3 years by its previous owner. Was chasing an overboost fault that occasionally flashed up. 2 garages said turbo veins. Still had the fault. I went back to stock software to rule the map out. Turned out it WAS the map despite everyone saying the map was OK. Good work chaps,

Great video, I have an identical truck. Owned it for 13 years. A 3 litre mk6 auto is the one everyone wants, check the chassis where the fuel tank cross member goes, as they rot. Mines a minter, but that rail was rotton as a pear, so may need a welder on it. That truck with low mileage is 8k all day long. I was offered more than that px on mine, and got my new Hilux due delivery in November. Been waiting a year for it

That is a nice one, and it appears a lovely, honest seller. I did slightly worry when you were late, fearing that something had caused a real problem. In-built, satnavs are rather more miss than hit, my wife's 2012 would not update and though last year, had my 2016 updated, yet when I used a new motorway junction the inbuilt satnav had me driving across a field, no surprise there! We use Waze, with my wife as navigation manager, always up-to-date, it speaks instructions, and tells us about problems like building congestion and how to avoid a problem. Glad Chris had a well-earned break, he looks refreshed.

I did 79,000 miles in just 10 months in a Hilux back in the 80's and it never missed a heartbeat , incredible vehicles back then. Back to reality and EGR's....had the emissions fix and a new EGR and my car works fine doing regular 700/800 miles weekend trips with no issues. I believe the new valves are coated and reject soot that caused the original problem......reckon my garage told the truth as after 7 years the dirty diesel still putting on the miles. Keep up the good work guys but don't apologise for taking a short break 👍

Just to mention about EGR valves getting blocked. The main reason for this is the EGR cooler normal gets blocked first then this blocks the valve which puts the engine management light on. Just cleaning the valve and not the cooler as well won't really help the problem it just stops the light coming on. It just ends up blocking the DPF and exhaust in time and sending the ecu nuts. I have found putting Red X diesel treatment in normally helps it get clear if it's not to clogged up. And take it for a hard drive for a bit. Saves hundreds on new parts.

I used to replace the EGR valve on my X-type ever year. Was a quick and cheap job to do. EGRs always seem to block on large engine diesels, particularly if they aren't used for long journeys. No real need to delete them though

A lot of diesels suffer from this problem. I am running a Mercedes B class 200 CDI and at around 105 thousand miles the engine management light came on and it turned out to be the whole assembly was solid with carbon and also prevented the turbo operating, so I was driving a slug for a while until we tracked the problem down, so may I suggest that you strip not only the EGR valve off bur also the housing that the valve is located in as this in my case was solid with carbon! I hope access to yours is easier than mine as it was a nightmare to access but well worth the trouble. Fit a new EGR valve it's well worth the cost!!
@eddieMurphy111112 жыл бұрын
these day you see so many Facebook pages on the likes of a freelander there are people advising people to do a EGR delete and then expecting the mots to be passed and some do but come on as you say it is there for a reason. that tyre could be down to a wishbone on that side and engine management light could be down to the more power wanted but the fuel could not keep up with the demand so could be blocked filter or fuel pump . thanks for the video
@centralian12 жыл бұрын
Just a short note to say that at the age of this vehicle and mileage you should definitely check the the fuel injector value's as the D-4D 1KD-FTV engine is notorious for failing injectors. I have this engine in my Toyota Prado and it needs a new set of injectors around every 150000 km's. If this still has it's original injectors then they will be the non DLC coated spindles. A dead give away for the injectors is how bad the engine rattles on cold start up in the morning. The latest injectors last longer than the original OEM ones. Also if it still has the original short body Suction Control Valve that needs to be thrown and replaced with the new long body version. Also when it comes to air conditioning the first place to look is the aluminium tube to the compressor, it is very common for this tube to suffer a wear hole from cabling being routed wrongly. I forgot to mention that you will probably find that the MAP filter needs replacing as they are usually cracked by the time they reach the mileage of this car.
@derredriver2 жыл бұрын
If its the same as a prado there's two rubber stops under the bonnet that are threaded and you can winde them up to take the slack out of the bonnet good luck with the engine light had a land cruiser the egr was nearly fully b locked mechanic said he never seen one as bad never threw a light.
@carlbentham57842 жыл бұрын
If the egr has had a blanking plate fitted it might not put the light on, it depends where it’s been blanked on some cars, for example on the vivaro 2.0 engines you can blank the pipe that comes from the exhaust to the egr, the valve still opens and closes but doesn’t recirculate the gasses, I’d take the blank plate out and see if it comes on then
@sruk2 жыл бұрын
No plate fitted

i would agree with you but it sounds more like it was just mapped out with the cleaned EGR left in place. i hear a lot of people are doing this way now with the change in laws regarding emissions modifications. mapping it out just means the ECU wont try to use it and also wont throw codes. as far as i know there is almost no way to tell from an inspection if its just been mapped out, emissions check might show its not in use but not that its mapped out... someone might correct me on that, im not 100% on that part
@whitemonkey79322 жыл бұрын
@@adampyro834 I've only ever blocked them off and left them in software....never been an issue.

@@adampyro834 Very unlikely even the emissions test would notice it, DPFs have a huge effect on emissions, but the EGR hardly does anything in terms of a percentage.

I've wanted a pickup for so long... i am 39 now and i think the earliest i can remember wanting one is when i first watched the film "Back to the future" i admit i dont like black, shows scratches and bloody hot when left in sunlight but if i could buy this one or similar i would. having said that i dont work in any sort of job that requires a pickup i would just love it for what it is, storage space and towing ability. i do grump a bit at people i see on facebook groups that have EGR and/or DPF issues especially when they say they dont do much motorway journeys... im like what the heck you got a diesel for then? so my bet which id almost put money on... new EGR valve maybe a clean/treatment as well and as long as it does 20 mins high speed on motorways per week, it wont have any further issues for a while. only thing i can think that would make that wrong is something like burning oil or some other bad running issue creating carbon/soot.
