You say within the video that you don’t blame Copart for the history you uncovered. But, given that it went through Copart in the US as a write off/total loss I wouldn’t be that generous!!

With US insurance write offs, you can type in the VIN number into google and more often than not, you'll find the photos showing the damage to the vehicle. Good job you didn't buy that heap of junk. What annoys me is the Copart listing just says the 'Primary Damage' is Minor Dents and Scratches.... That does seem like a definite case of false advertising if the car is a written off import from the US. Surely Copart should have a Car Vertical account and check vehicles to put customer's minds at ease!

So happy that you did the car vertical check for international history, I’m sure whoever bought the car for 50K won’t be happy. A very worthwhile video. Three things. Would Lamborghini in the USA not have a service history which would include mileage? Secondly, it does show the value of Car Vertical. I have seen people on here comment adversely about them, stating things have been missed on cars they have bought. This video shows how good it can be. Finally, I would hope the Motor Insurance Bureau (MIB) in the UK, would have this information. Experian too. When I sold cars, I would pass on information to them from time to time if a vehicle was suspect. It would be nice to know that someone wasn't going to get bitten on the bum in the future.

Agreed. But why would they. They make more in commission the higher the car price, so they have an incentive to not to dig deep. And they can wiggle their way out of any responsibility by using the old 'it's upto the buyer to do checks' as stated in the video. Scummy business tactics.

You definitely made the right choice I’ve just checked and the vehicle is still for sale. 13 of Jan 22 @ 11.15 . So I believe that it has not reached the reserve price. I think the milage could be ok. A lot of super cars are crashed /written off in the first few days of use especially in America and potentially it’s been repaired and passed on and either they couldn’t sell it or each owner has bought it thinking it’s 100% and then realised it’s not. And sold it. Or it’s been passed on from trader to trader. I believe that in the us each time it’s passed on it has to be recorded unlike in the uk. All I can say is thank goodness car vertical exists and thank god you did your home work and carried out those checks. I think you dodged a bullet there. My only advice is if you want your dream car I wouldn’t buy from an auction as you just never know the full history. Unless you are willing to take the risk. Good luck your time will come.

about 4 month ago i bought a 2009 1.8 TDCI Ford focus from what i call a back street dealer... £1390 it was. delivered to my home. knew it had an engine mount that needed doing as it was an MOT advisory, assumed this was why it was a little cheaper than others. so wrong. 3 days after getting it she wouldnt start (common solder connections on dash cluster) dealer collected it and sent to a garage at their expense. few days later i went to collect it. speedo was stuck on 20mph and still doesnt work right, fuel gauge is indicates slightly lower than actual level. when i looked at the mileage they had driven it 180 miles for which i got £10 and £10 for taxi to collect it. other things ive noticed like damage in engine bay to dipstick tube /bracket (i believe engine was previously replaced so might have been stored on its side and crushed the bracket). all 4 tyres had inside tyre wear to some point one blew out on me luckily about 1/2 a mile before i would have been on motorway doing 70mph. found a chip in windscreen on passengers side, barely shows on original pics i had but id missed it. theres more little things and a bit of general wear/scrapes etc but my point is... i did some checks before buying, knew it wasnt a write off or anything like that. felt safe to buy through this place even without viewing (damn covid). if i had viewed it i would have spotted most of the obvious things like windscreen and tyres so even though these online checks are awesome nothing can beet having a good look round if not yourself a trained mechanic... you live and you learn right? PS... car is generally nice for age and once fixed up should last me the few years i need it to

Excellent content. This was extremely interesting to watch. The old saying, if it’s too good to be true! Keep looking Rob, you’ll get a Lambo eventually! 👍👍

Shows you how much due diligence Copart are doing on what they take in and market - this car had already been on their books back in the USA and I must admit I'm surprised they didn't pick that up.

Very interesting vid, good call for putting it out. The buyers phone is probably going to ping soon with a link to this vid, God knows how he's going to react !

That was very fortunate that you checked the history, I recently was after a 60K mile transit, with a mechanical fault, in the Belfast Copart, but it had a mileage discrepancy warning, so when I checked it's past history I found that it had been through Copart two years earlier with hard body damage and 200 thousand extra miles, yes 260,000 miles!!! research will always pay off.....

I have used car vertical a few times before, even on cars I have owned for a few years, just for confidence. A few quid well spent.

I can quite honestly say Rob and Chris, you well and truly dodged a bullet there. Mind you, if I was to buy a car that was repaired, I'd prpbably only buy it off yourselves... Just goes to show looks arent everything with a car - Now it makes sense why Copart diddnt want you guys to look at it in person

Good decision to go ahead with this video. It will certainly help educate people as to what is out there.

You guys made a wise choice in not going after that car. It is full of nightmares!!! With all the available information on the internet, like Car Vertical, etc., no one should get stuck with a bad car like this, ever. This was a great video on the education side!

I’ve been watching this for years now, and I’ve just realised Chris sounds like Rodney from only fools and horses 😂😂😂😂
