If Ford wants to survive they need to do this. Because Toyota is shredding everyone right now. I live in Mexico City. I was driving for hours and only found one old Ford SUV on the streets. Most were Toyotas, Mazdas, Volkswagens and Chevrolets. But most were Toyotas.

Japanese/Asian vehicles have better build quality and hence reliability is higher. That's the reason consumers buy them, cheap components, sloppy assembly processes, maximise profit but kill your reputation.

I had a 1991 Toyota Celica Gtr 2.0L for 21 years with absolutely no problems, I bought it second hand with 24k Km on the meter. I was going to keep it as a classic car, (here in Cyprus a car must be at least 30 years old & in factory condition without any mods to be eligible for classic car registration - get road tax discount). Because of its age I needed to pay a lot for insurance & road tax, finally I sold it when it was 25 years old with only 89k Km on the meter - ('cause it was my leasure car - only for the weekend car) to a collector a Toyota mechanic. I really miss that car, I have photos.

I used to work for an established crankshaft manufacturer in the UK, once the crankshaft was finish ground it's inspection was vital. The cleanliness of the shaft was vital, they go thro' a wash machine to flush out metal swarf from all oilways , even very small fines can destroy the bearing shells. Cleanliness is a key process in engine builds

I had a terrible experience with one of the " mid range price" exhaust manifolds" flange was off spec, tried to grind it to fit as I had to go to work( work truck) still did'nt fit lost price if part plus my time and still had to order a new " premium part. My return was DENIED because I modified their part that was unfit for purpose in the first place. F... Rock Auto. And I had to argue the point with some hourly employee by text with someone that really didn't know cars.

That sucks can't have the daily down. Daily's need the good stuff it's not cheap but it's not as pricey as an auto parts store. I come to learn for the most part that cheap parts require work to make it work. Pricey requires less work things just fit.

Rock Auto used to note when a part was the OEM but I havent been on there in a while so they may have changed that. But yes they do sell OEM and after market products on there. Sometimes I cant find OEM for my saturn so I have to buy after market ones. I took my car to a mechanic who found a clutch pedal from his dealership network for over $500 but I could have gotten an aftermarket one that looked identical for $71. Sure the one from him was an OEM and a miracle he found a clutch for an almost 20 year old car that they dont make anymore but at the same time its an almost 20 year old car they dont make anymore... I dont plan on keeping it for the rest of my life so if the after market one works for a few years that should be longer than I own this car.

Sad state of affairs we are in now when old cars are clearly better than new ones, I think my favourite period for car etc must be the 90s, before that there were defo some dodgy cars but after that things slowly got too regulated and driven by emissions / mpg etc etc. Good thing is I can still but an old car if I want , bad thing is I will have to pay extortionate amount of tax to run it.

My oldest brother graduated college with a lot of other mechanical engineers. Those that went to work for the car companies figured out how to get 100mpg back in the late 60's and early 70's. 8:27 Actually, the EV failed 100 years ago because of the oil lobby. They were never truly given a chance. Don’t get me wrong, the combustion engine is proven technology (when built properly). EV’s are far from perfect. They’re not for everyone. They’re great for getting around city proper, providing the right infrastructure. Rural America? ICE is still king. As long as big oil has a say on Capitol Hill, combustion engines aren’t going away. And in some way, big oil has done the EV dirty.

Both are rumored to come out together, but it’s likely to be one or the other. More likely still is the Celica. I’m pulling for mister 2 though. Mid engine straight 4 turbo from Toyota sounds like a dream.

Tesla isn't doing so well either. Now that you can actually buy a Model 3 for the price Musk originally claimed, under $35,000 (the first models off the assembly line were in the mid $50,000 range), the depreciation will kill your finances. If you had sold short that same dollar amount ($35000) of Tesla stock about two weeks ago and covered it this week, you would have made nearly $5000 in profit, which would be a great down payment on a more practical vehicle.

@@aussie2uGA Yes, you are right. It moved along with the market and tech stocks, but its quarterly report was not good. Some commentators thought it was being manipulated and bid up like some "meme" stocks. But with current vehicle pricing, it is unlikely it will be profitable in the near future. Past sales included rental car companies. They found they could not rent Teslas profitably and will likely not buy them in the future. And those rental cars will be dumped on the market. Hertz is offering 2023 Model 3s with 34,000 miles at about $22k. Why buy new?

I'd love a revived Celica the original one was discontinued in 2006 after 35 years production and a few million sold. when my younger brother was in College he drove a used 1994 Eddie Bauer edition Ford Bronco which has a gross vehicle weight of 6,300 LBs which had an average of 14 MPG combined while the 2005 Camry he drives now averages 21 MPG combined even though its gross vehicle weight is 4,200 LBs granted a US ton is 2,000 LBs so the Ford is 3 US tons while the Toyota is 2 US tons gross granted people weigh 50% more than they did 20 yrs. ago had I been meant to be a slim build I'd have been 127 LBs which would give me a BMI of 20.2 in the lower end of normal for my height 5 ft 6.5 in granted only 4 people have ever driven that Toyota all of whom were between 1.5875 m 5 Ft 2.5 in and 1.8225m or 5 Ft 11.75 in granted due to age most of us have shrunk some dad is currently 5 Ft 8.75 in mum is 4 Ft 11.8 in etc. when I would've gotten my license in Sept 2001 I'd have been 1.6764 m or 5 Ft 6 in and sadly about 75 LBs overweight had I wanted a 2 door luxury car it would've either been a Cadillac Eldorado or a Lexus SC 430 Convertible the SC 430 would've been Indigo Ink pearl or Twilight Amethyst with saddle tan interior if I wanted a four door Luxury car it would've been either a Lincoln Town Car or Buick Park Avenue Toreador Red with light gray leather interior in length the Lexus is the shortest at 14.83 Ft while the longest is the Lincoln Town Car L Series at 18.42 Ft more than 3.6 ft longer and the heaviest at 5,400 LBs or 2,455 Kilos
